[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Malachite Kingfisher is the smallest, the most colourfull and the most common Kingfisher I have seen in Tanzania. To have a good picture is difficult because the bird is so small (much smaller than a House Sparrow).
This picture has been taken in Selous NP during a boat Safari (which was absolutely great). The camera was handheld (400 mm with image stabilizer on a small boat!) The distance was aprox. 3-4 meters and the bird did not fly away, not even showing any stress when the rancher approached the boat closer and closer. The same happened with 2 other species of kingfisher on the same trip. That was an amazing experience.

Kingfishers are one of my favorite birds, I leap from Jackdaws and sparrows to the jewels of colour. Again it is nice to see the subject off centre, great photo
