Hi my Friends!

Spring bloomed around with many flowers and insects. Last two weeks I was out of work and with poor contact with internet ;-) Today first trophy from this past time.

Green Hairstreak
Callophrys rubi

Distribution: Very widespread across North Africa and all of Europe. It is generally common where it is found.

Identification: The green underside is highly distinctive but there is another species of Callophrys which is very similar - the Chapman's Green Hairstreak, C.avis. That species is rare, very local and only found near the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and Mediterranean France plus North Africa. For separation information please refer to the species page of C. avis.

Flight time: It flies early in the season across its range depending on locality and altitude. Usually it is not found after mid June but I have odd records from July and even August.

Habitat: Diverse. Open places to clearings in woodland from sea level to alpine meadows. Damp or dry conditions. Feeds on a wide range of mostly woody plants, but also some herbs.

Behaviour: Often sits on leaves of trees and bushes where its green underside renders it near-invisible. Certainly it is almost impossible to spot a resting butterfly unless you have seen it land or it moves. Never opens its wings when resting.

Hello Grzegorz,
We expect to see the green Hairstreak any day now in Sweden, though it is a little rarer in Scania where I live.
Nice to see such a close macro with the fine detail of the scales, head and antennae, though it is a very close crop.
This shot is an inspirartion for me to look for it now, so thanks for sharing this one!
Best wishes, Ivan

Jak zwykle piękne zdjęcie. Mnie mimo starań nie udało się znaleźc tego gatunku w naturze - może nie szukam odpowiednio wnikliwie ;-)

Hi Greg! Good to see you MF.

I don't think I've seen a green b'fly like this one before. Very pretty, very sharp, and good notes too. I love the colour of the wings with the coloured fringes.

Good one

Hi Greg and nice to see you back and posting :)...quite a long pause :)

This is a lovely "trophy" you got here!
The macro work is excellent and shows this little beautiful in all its splendor!
The details and clear textures on his body, head and wings are amazing and the colors everywhere are lovely and well saturated.
The blurred BG does well to make it stand out nicely and the lighting is also great.
Very beautiful close-up and hope to see more :)

Bravo and TFS

Superb sharpness and excellent details in the beautiful green butterfly, but maybe cropped a bit too tight.

Hello, Grzegorz.
What amazing colors.
You managed to capture the iridescence beautifully.
Very sharp details and excellent POV.
TFS. : )

Witam Grzesiu!
Po kilkudniowej przerwie znow jestem na TN i co widze? Twoja nowa fotke :)
Podobnie jak porpzednie zdjecia tak ze i to jest bardzo ladne. Swietne szczegoly, niezly profil ;> no i interessujaca notka.

PS.Pierwsze trzyszcze lapalem juz w koncowce marca, wiec sadze, ze te w ogrodzie tez juz troche czasu "harcuja" ;>

No wreszcie - dlugo wyczekiwana fotka od Ciebie... i to jaka ladna. Zawsze lubilem zielen, podobnie jak i metaliczne polyski. A juz metaliczna zielen to zupelny odlot. Pieknie przedstawiles tego motyla a nie jest to latwe wlasnie z racji koloru i polysku. Podoba mi sie ciasne kadrowanie, ciemne tlo no i oczywiscie swietna notka.

Wow!! What a marvellous macro, Grzegorz!!
Just perfect in all aspects, with marvellous colors and composition.
Impressive job!
Congratulations and TFS.
Best wishes

Getting back to this picture of a Green Hairstreak is great fun, Greg.
Missing it earlier was a loss to me which I am making up now :-)!
Firstly, I have seen this butterfly for the first time.
Secondly, this picture presents the subject in such a way that looking at it with one's own eyes would not be as enriching an experience as this one.
It is simply marvellous.

Hi Grzegorz

I was going to post a critique on your frogs when my eye was caught by the beautiful irridescent green of this butterfly. What a beautiful specimen. Nicely sharp, excellent details and as I said stunning colours. Lovely shot

Hello Grzegorz,
Excellent capture of the Green Hairstreak, a butterfly I've hardly seen yet this year. They are so special and pretty hard to photograph. Your shot is very sharp and in lovely colours. Interesting to see how some scales are lost. Nice soft background too.
TFS and regards, Ulla
