Alabama Hills are a range of hills in the Owens Valley of California, near Lone Pine, California. The rounded contours of the Alabamas contrast with the sharp ridges of the Sierra Nevada to the west, different patterns of erosion account for the difference.

There are two main types of rock exposed at Alabama Hills. One is an orange, drab weathered metamorphosed volcanic rock that is 150-200 million years old. The other type of rock exposed here is 90 million year old granite which weathers to potato-shaped large boulders.

The Alabama Hills are a popular location for television and movie productions especially Westerns. Since the early 1920s 150 movies and about a dozen television shows have been filmed here including Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, The Gene Autry Show, and The Lone Ranger.

Hello Sky!
Very nice picture, with good details and very nice DOF. I really nice also colours and the note.
If it is really a scanned picture I have to say that the quality is really good.
The only question I have is why the colour of sky is darker on the sides of photo? :>
Best greetings,

PS. Why no points???

Hello Sky,
You have captured a beautiful scene. I really liked the colors and the DoF. It is good to see snow covered mountains at distance. Well done.

Ps: I would love to give you points but, as you wish..

Very impressive composition with rough and rugged rocks in the foreground and a snow covered range in the distance. I guess the polarizer filter has been used to give the sky that deep blue tinge.
TFS and bye.

wonderful landscape with beautiful colors and great view on this hills

Hi Sky,

I just returned from a trip to these hills. I'll be posting some shots from there soon. The sky looks very saturated. I think that the polarizer should probably not be set to full effect, especially on landscape (horizontal) shots.

Evelynn : )

Hi Sky

Another wonderful scenary from you!
The colors here are simply outstanding! They blew right from the thumbnail! What a terrific exposure to give you such brilliant tones!
I really like the contrast here a lot, especially between the rock formations, those snowy peaks in the BG and that deep blue sky!
Everything looks just great! A charming composition!
I can't NOT give you any points for this one (even if it doesn't matter all that much) because it's really wonderful!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Sky,
Beautiful view and good details.Very nice Composition. Excellent done and TFS.

Oh yes Sky,
I recognize this place for having seen it many times in movies :) This is such a typical Western landscape! Those colors are beautiful with this low POV. I like those multiples elements in the composition and DOF. This sky is amazing and so are those white peaks. Well done! I don't know why you wrote no points please, so I give you some until you explain, lol ;)

hello sky!

Hello Sky,
A good composition showing well the somewhat hostile landscape!
Wonderful comlours, and the deep blue sky contrasts so well the snowy mountains...
