A Mute Swan (one of many), Cygnus olor, at Saltash Waterside, Cornwall. You can get fairly close to them... or they can get fairly close to you. Hold a piece of bread and they'll come right up to you and take it from your hand. Actually, it's a little scary. ;)
Mute Swans in the United Kingdom
Pretty much possible to see them anywhere, wherever there is a shallow lake, slow-flowing rivers or even in urban areas and parks, in the UK except for Northern Scotland, mid-Wales and the moors of south-west England .
Mute Swans are white, with an orange bill with black at the base of it. Their necks are S-shaped. Males are larger than females, and also have a larger knob on their bill.
