This is a couple of the damselfly
- Pyrrhosoma nymphula
- family: Coenagrionidae

PRESS F11 to see the entire picture on your screen,

The species appears early in the year - by the end of April - and is by far not rare. Nevertheless, these damselflies are attractive with respect to colour and in particular couples may deliver beautiful motives.
During pairing, female and male form a kind of 'heart' as can be seen on this picture.

P. nymphula occurs in Europe, in the western parts of Asia (eastwards up to the Caucasus) and in Morocco.

The picture was taken with a 40-150mm lense (actual focal length 113 mm) in combination with an Olympus Digital Extension Tube EX-25.
- natural bright sunlight
- ISO 200
- hand-held

Oh, you were referring to the heart shape formed by these mating damsels in your caption, Peter.
The image is simply beautiful.
TFS.

Hi Peter,
A very unique scene that you has catched!
Great for the overall sharpness and clear details on the insect's couple.
And of course, that pose by wich the heart is formed is just magnificent.
My compliments and thanks for share it.
Best regards,
JM

Hello Peter,
Beautiful capture of a pair of P. nymphula in cop. Excellent sharpness and lighting from the side and pleasing blurred green BG.
This, together with a fine composition, make it a first class shot.
TFS and have a good weekend,

Hi Peter,
perfekte Schärfe - und dieses tolle Motiv!
Du hattest Glück diesen Moment zu sehen.

Hallo Peter,
Anne

Hi Peter

Anther splendid macro photo from you!
This is a great catch and a superb moment, with a very charming species. Unfortunately there are very few records of this species in my country, although i'd lovee to see one in real life one day... :)
The focus and DOF here is impeccable and as a result both of the damsels are shown with impressive details and sharpness.
The exposure was nicely managed and all the colors and tones are gorgeous.
As a suggestion i might add that a very little fill-in flash would have helped you to get better details and textures in the shadowed areas...but that really doesn't change the fact that this is a splendid shot :)

BRAVO and TFS
Horia
