Cejialba (Callophrys rubi) (Linnaeus, 1758)
Una mariposilla peque�a esta Cejialba. La encontr� paseando por el monte de Sorriba. Al principio me emocion� pensando que se trataba de una Cejirrubia (Callophrys avis), pues nunca hab�a visto una Callophrys rubi con esas manchas blancas en el ala superior. Pero no. Ambas mariposas son muy similares, tienen los mismos tonos verdes en la parte ventral y al parecer la misma posibilidad de variaci�n en las manchas blancas de las alas. Lo que realmente distingue a la una de la otra es el tono cobrizo que tiene la C.avis en los ojos y en la cabeza, y el color naranja que tiene en la parte posterior de la punta de las antenas. As� que, nada, seguiremos buscando.
Descripci�n: La longitud de las alas es de entre 27 y 34 mm. Siempre reposa con las alas cerradas. La parte ventral, de inconfundible color verde, muestra una serie variable de manchas blancas. La parte dorsal de las alas es de color marr�n sin marcas. Los dos sexos son similares.
Periodo de vuelo: Desde primeros de abril a finales de junio.
Habitat: Diverso. En espacios abiertos y claros de bosque, desde el nivel del mar hasta prados alpinos. En condiciones h�medas o secas. Se alimenta de una amplia variedad de plantas silvestres y tambi�n de algunas hierbas.

Green Hairstreak (Callophrys rubi) (Linnaeus, 1758)
A small butterfly which I found last April, in the mount of Sorriba. At first I thought it was a Chapman's Green Hairstreak, for I had never seen a Callophrys rubi with those white marks on the upper wing, but finally I found this is C.rubi for it has not redish eyes and head.
Distribution: Very widespread across North Africa and all of Europe. It is generally common where it is found.
Description: The Green Hairstreak is unmistakable with its green underside which is always shown when perched for it always perches with the wings closed. This camouflages the resting adult as it resembles a newly opened leaf. This combined with the small size (wingspan 27-34mm) of the insect mean it can easily be missed.
The underside also has a variable series of white marks. The upperside of both wings is an unmarked rich brown. The sexes are alike.
The green underside is highly distinctive but there is another species of Callophrys which is very similar - the Chapman's Green Hairstreak, C.avis. That species is rare, very local and only found near the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and Mediterranean France plus North Africa.
The distinctive marks between them are:
-Avis showing rusty red around eyes and along palpi.
-Rubi showing white eyes and black along palpi.
-Stripy legs on rubi
-Inner side of antennal club orange on avis, black in rubi
Flight Period: Single brooded from mid-April to late June, peaking in May. It flies early in the season across its range depending on locality and altitude.
Habitat: Diverse. Open places to clearings in woodland from sea level to alpine meadows. Damp or dry conditions. A colonial species found on bogs and heaths with scrub. Often sits on leaves of trees and bushes where its green underside renders it near-invisible. Certainly it is almost impossible to spot a resting butterfly unless you have seen it land or it moves. Never opens its wings when resting. They adjust their position according to sun direction and temperature. Males leave their perch to investigate passing insects. Any females encountered will be pursued. Females fly over habitat searching for nectar sources or foodplants. Throughout its range the species uses a wide variety of shrubby plants especially ericaceous and leguminous species. Feeds on a wide range of mostly woody plants, but also some herbs.

Another very beautiful macro work from you!
I like the side POV here that shows this charming little butterfly and all the lovely colors of his underwing.
The details are great and sharp and the DOF here is spot-on, blurring the BG nicely.
One more thing i must appreciate here is the exposure - that was definitely not an easy task, having a bright sunlight and a pretty bright subject, too - but you managed it impeccably.

Una preciosidad de mariposa la que nos muestras, ya es bastante con verlas y lo de las cejas para identificarla ya es de nota, me refiero a que es de nota si se consigue identificarlas al vuelo.....
En parado pues para m� tambi�n ser�a un problema la identificaci�n, de lo que no hay duda es de que es una foto muy interesante, bien captura con una nitidez muy buena y un entorno igual de bonito.
