[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot was taken very near to my last shot of Greenland flowers - from a walk a few hundred feet above Nordost Bugt, an inlet running to the north-east off Nordvest Fjord. Nordvest Fjord is the longest fjord in the World and runs from Scoresby Sund in East Greenland deep into the heart of Greenland which, itself, it the largest island in the World.

This picture is taken looking south-east from the top of Nordost Bugt into Nordvest Fjord. In the foreground are lots of relatively small icebergs which are grounded in the shallow water: in the warmth of summer, they begin to melt and often collapse or roll and tumble with sounds like thunder occasionally resounding through the mountains. These sounds can be quite spooky if trying to sleep in a tent at night but are very alarming indeed if you are trying to pick your way through a pack of icebergs in a small dinghy, not knowing if the berg near you is about to collapse!

I hope you like this - it was taken 37 years ago on Kodachrome 64 with my old Edixa Prismat. I copied the slide and the main PP has been to try to remove the legacy of 37 years of dust!

Considering the age of the slide, this as a really excellent shot. The ice, composition and POV are impressive.

Hi John,

I'm with James. It's pretty impressive considering the age. The colours may have faded a bit, but they could easily be boosted a tad.

I love the power of this image though, those ice floats give it an alien surreal effect.

Hello John and welcome to TN. This does look good for a scan of an older slide. The angular shapes on the bergs are really nice. Even more interesting than a collapsing berg is one rolling over while one is in a rubber dinghy. When that happens it can suck your boat right under. Fortunately I never came close to that happening but just knowing that it could, added a good deal of interest to the trip, to put it mildly. I hope to see more of your work here on TN
