[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This species of hoverfly belongs to the genus Chrysotoxum, of which there are several species that are variable and difficult to differentiate. With this difficulty in mind I think this is C. elegans. Typical for this genus are the comparitively long antennae. They don't hover as much as other hoverflies, but they do like visiting flowers. Their larvae develope in compost.

At over 15 mm long this is a fairly large hoverfly and one of the earliest to appear in Sweden. I caught this individual at a distance of about two meters and cropped the image by about 50% and sharpned it after size reduction.

I would have liked a better DOF but as the wind was moving the leaf that it was on I opted for a higher shutter speed.

The degree of noise in this shot is low enough not to need treatment.

Hi Ivan, Superb macro of the hover fly. Lovely colour and sharp details. Excellent POV and DOF. I like the sheen on its wings. The green leaf as BG looks wonderful. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Ivan,

Marvelous macro of this fly! The yellow and black show up beautifully against the green leaf. Terrific details - I love the position of the wings.

Hi Ivan,
Very nice! It is well exposed and the hoverfly is in exceptionally sharp focus. You also did a good job with your crop. Placing the main subject off center and on a diagonal, makes for a very effective composition, which is all too rare in this kind of photo.

Hi Ivan

This is a very beautiful macro capture.
I really like the sharpness of every single details here and the lovely contour is designes between the hoverfly andthe leaf. The exopsure here was pretty tricky, but you managed it perfectly, carefully not overexposing the bright side of its body.
The natural colors are wonderful and the DOF is exceptional.

Bravo and TFS

super macro of the hoverfly and the texture of the leaf is very well defined too.
TFS & Cheers

Hi Argus, this is excellent colour and detail on this guy, and the shot as a whole. I think your depth of field is great. I like how you've pulled up the hairs on the curve of the leaf.

Thanks, John

Hej Ivan
Nice and sharp shot of this hover-fly. I like it as it is.
As you and Gert said it is to much green on trees which makes more difficult to photograph birds. It is mow insects and other creatures from ground on spotlight. Maybe I will try to make some and need your expertise to find ID :) I have new 100mm 2.8 macro which I bought last year and newer used.
TFS

Ivan, nice shot of this fly. The composition and the pov is too good ganesh

You have an interesting specie here. I am tired of looking at hovers, but if I came across this one, it would maybe confuse me. It really looks like a wasp at a first glance.
Nice suny details and clearness.
Thanks and reagards.
PD: Thanks for your ident tip too, it is appreciated.
