Hi Horia,
just to use your words.....ofcoarse we like it!
The completely natural location where you took this picture is very good. There's also something like a diagonal in the image, from which the experts say it's good. Besides that you've taken a shrp and well composed image of this grass snake (is it the N.n.n.?). It's a subadult if you ask me.
I'd say go out more, Horia...:-)

Hello Horia,
Color, composition and selective focus with good use of depth of field make this one stand out. I like the diagonal position of the snake and the green that surrounds it. The bright leaf(?) below the snake is a bit distracting though. Well done. Regards,

A nice capture that you composed carefully and I think it is good to train/try photographic skills with techniques of others
I think this is part of TN that I like,you can learn everyday,I posted a grass snake yesterday as well and I must say I was glad that I could make a few shot,I am not so fond of them and although I know they are harmless I think I would never take him out like you did,anyway I like your capture a lot,It shows all the snake in a natural ambiance,well done and tfs

Amazing shot in vivd colours.
YOu mentioned the problem of lighting, but i think it's a perfect shot.Those eyes are superb and the greens around along with PoV shows a great DoF.

Hi Horia

This is one of your best postings. The angle is really unusual and dramatic. The focus on the head and eye is brilliant and leads the eye to the coils of the snake. The BG of blurred spaghnum moss is lovely and creates a lovely frame. Finally, the lighting is very well done - especially under the conitions you describe.

Hello Horia,
Very fine shot of a Grass Snake with excellent sharpness, lighting, colour and taken from a fine POV. The blurred BG emphasises the snake and the rotation is very effective on this occasion.
Your use of the S2 IS is masterly and PP work very skillful.

Excellent composition on the diagonal Horia.
It's the selective focus, pin sharp, lighting and colour that has made this a stunning image to fit the composition. The light leaf litter in the front does grab your eye though, a bit distracting.

Hi Horia.
It is very interesting work. Impressive and unusual, low POV, turning (if I am not mistaken) of the image, terrific colour palette and great sharpness of this small beauty. You are luckier. Odessa lizards are so quick that I only have time to lead their by my sight in a dense grass. Exposure parameters are unique too. You control your camera extremely perfect (as well as the subject). Hi Horia,
Boy, am I looking forward to seeing what you produce once you have your dSLR :-) This is superb and honestly hard to believe that it was taken with a compact. Almost perfect DOF, really great POV (maybe you should try without a tripod some more :-)) and wonderful colours. No noise either, just a superb image. Nice dedication too.

I agree this is one of your best shots, or at least, one of the most I like it :-)
Very impressive the sharpness and the focus got on the insect, while the DOF works absolutly great for the grasses at the surroundings.
You did it pretty well with the inclination to get this terrific composition.

Wonderful POV and DOF...
Composed very well...leaving enough space suggesting this is still a little one and -in combination with the diagional line- suggesting the 'movement'.
Of course there are the colours, the light, etc... all are well done!

Hi Horia, I'm not normally a fan of tilt or angled shots but it certainly works well here. Wow! Your depth of field is incredible. You have such amazing focus up front where it counts with excellent isolation of this snake from his background. His pose too was incredible. He actually bunched himself up for this shot for you. Your detail on the snake is bang on, with a very nice blend of colour into the foliage. Excellent!

Well I'm flattered, but I would have to say there are other really great photographers on this website that deserve equal mention besides me that have the same passion for the craft and show remarkable skill, I would like to mention them but there are quite a few on treknature, I would be afraid that I would miss someone, and I wouldn't want to hurt anybodys feelings.

Yes, there is somewhat of a similiar style in this particular capture. There is nothing wrong with a tilted angled image, matter of opinion, sometimes it make an image even more exciting, as does yours. To some viewers the leaf in front may be of a bit distraction but your intentions of the narrow shallow DOF bring immediate focus to the snake and to me this is not an issue as I find this a superb capture.

Hi Horia,

Superb capture of the Grass Snake, I really like the composition and its a fabulous pose with the Snake at a diagonal angle and wasn't it nice of the Snake to coil up nicely so you could get him all in the frame, nice sharp detail with great focus on the eye and head, beautiful fresh colours and the lighting is excellent. I'm sure the Dude is well impressed!

Salut Horia,

Se pare ca deja te-ai acomodat destul de bine cu noua ta "casa" si ti-ai si reluat hobbyul. Sper sa reusesti sa-ti cumperi camera pe care ti-o doresti atat de mult.
In ceea ce priveste fotografia, sunt absoult speechless. Cred ca ceea ce face din aceasta fotografie excelenta una superba este faptul ca ai inclinat linia orizontului.

Compositie:

Nu pot sa spun decat ca compozitia este una excelenta. Linia inclinata a orizontului o face foarte dinamica. Imi place cum ai distribuit spatiul liber in jurul sarpelui iar adancimea campului vizual scoate subiectul in evidenta foarte bine.

Culori:

Culorile calde si bine saturate contribuie mult la esteticul fotografiei tale.

Contrast:

Contrastul este bine reglat si scoate in evidenta detaliile superbe pe care le-ai surprins.

Expunere:

Aici cred ca lipsa soarelui puternic te-a ajutat foarte mult chiar daca a trebuit sa sprijini camera de ceva pt a putea face fotografia. Umbrele sunt moi si nu acopera detalii importante. Imi place lumina din fotografia ta. 1/4 sec. nu este un timp de expunere tocmai scurt dar avand in vedere subiectul semi-amortit, rezultatul este exceptional.

Focusare:

Focusul este realizat corect, pastrand subiectul clar in timp ce fundalul este complet neclar.

Pe scurt o fotografie superba si o dedicatie pe masura! Felicitari si multumesc! Iti doresc numai succese pe meleagurile straine.

It's been a long time since I last visited your gallery, and I discovered many new pictures, wonderful pictures. This one isspecially beautiful. I love snakes, but I have never seen any in my region so I can only see them on pictures. Details, colors, composition, POV, pose and look of the snake are perfect. And dof course it is a wonderful snake, with those big eyes. Really a splendidpicture, it goes directly to my favourites.

Acum sa nu crezi ca o sa iti punctez toate fotografiile, doar pe cele care ma impresioneaza f f f fmult.Ai trisat putin luand acest animalut din locul lui(bine ca nu are alta specie, mai rea) dar ai reusit un macro excelent. Nu prea credeam ca e chiar atat de mic, uitandu-ma la fotografie.
