[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis). This is a fairly young male bird that has been re-homed after the original owner neglected the bird to the point of nearly killing it. In the UK there are very few laws regarding ownership of captive bred birds of prey, and anyone with the money can go and purchase a bird like this, regardless of their experience or what facilities they have for their new pet. Few people realise that when they take on a bird like this that the bird can live for up to around 50 years in captivity, making these animals a long term commitment.

When this bird was "rescued" it's wings were damaged from constant rubbing against the ground, the feathers were in terrible condition from lack of essential vitamins/minerals, and the bird was starving.

Now, with his new owner, he is well on the road to recovery, and is in the process of being "manned" ... where the eagle is handled a lot on the fist to become accustomed to human contact. His feathers have nearly all grown back after moulting out the old ones, and he is a healthy weight.

Muy buenas Miles
Precioso retrato de esta įguila, transmite fuerza y nobleza.
Un saludo

Hi Miles,
I am usually less impressed from photos of birds taken in captivity, specially when the photographer "forget" to mention it in his note.
First, I'm glad you've written a full description note.
Secondly, this photo has magnificent colors, details and composition. Also the open mouth and his tongue is very special. Well done.

Hi Miles,
I do like the compo and the sharp eye. Furtheron the plumage details and colouration are awesome.

wow, what a CRACKER...love the details and plumage

A very good quality shot Miles,
A tragic story with a happish ending at least, but no wild animal should be captive, however he certainly looks healthy.
Excellent details.
