This is a fungus from Polyporaceae family. The species may be Coltricia perennis.

Fungi (singular fungus) are a kingdom of eukaryotic organisms. They are heterotrophic and digest their food externally, absorbing nutrient molecules into their cells. Yeasts, molds, and mushrooms are examples of fungi. The branch of biology involving the study of fungi is known as mycology.

Fungi often have important symbiotic relationships with other organisms. Mycorrhizal symbiosis between plants and fungi is particularly important; over 90% of all plant species engage in some kind of mycorrhizal relationship with fungi and are dependent upon this relationship for survival. Fungi are also used extensively by humans: yeasts are responsible for fermentation of beer and bread, and mushroom farming and gathering is a large industry in many countries.

Fungi and bacteria are the primary decomposers of organic matter in almost all terrestrial ecosystems worldwide. There are an estimated 1.5 million species of fungi with around 70,000 of them having been described.

Bracket fungi, or shelf fungi, are fungi, in the phylum Basidiomycota. They produce shelf- or bracket-shaped fruiting bodies (conks) that lie in a close planar grouping of separate or interconnected horizontal rows. Brackets can range from only a single row of a few caps, to dozens of rows of caps that can weigh several hundred pounds. They are mainly found on trees, and resemble mushrooms. Some form annual fruiting bodies while others are perennial and grow larger year after year. Bracket fungi are typically tough and sturdy and produce their spores, called basidiospores, within the pores that typically make up the undersurface.

The term classically was reserved for polypores, however molecular studies have revealed some odd relationships. The beefsteak fungus, a well known bracket fungus, is actually a member of the agarics. Other examples of bracket fungi include the sulphur shelf, birch bracket, dryad's saddle, Artist's Conk, and turkey tail. Some species of bracket fungi are cultivated for human consumption or medicinal use.

I like pictured by your scenery so much. It is very (wild) natural and impressive. Colours of the picture are rich, clear and nice. DOF is great as well as the details and sharpness of the image. Perfect done and TFS.

I would guess at fisrt sight that this belongs to polyporaceae family, but I will have a look at my books and tell you something more.
