Hello again,
Today let's have a look inside a rose flower. Usually roses are very interesting objects, not just for their beauty but for all kinds of insects they attract. And if you are in southern Europe, where insect diversity and simply abundance is so big...

This little explorer I captured is:

Trichodes apiarius (Linnaeus, 1758)
Family: Cleridae - Checkered beetles

Larvae of this beetles live in bees' nests and feed on the grubs, while the imagines spend most of their life on the flowers, mostly umbelifers but also roses. What they're looking for - small insects...

They are easily observed and identified for their striking striped pattern and colouration. With species identification it's not so simple. Altogether in Europe there are 25 species of this genus. All quite similar to each other. Most of them are located in southern Europe.

intereresting insect great color nice focus

ce petit insecte s'est trouvé un abri bien odorant
jolie macro

Hi Michal,

I know this guy. I see him around here all the summer, like you said, scouting for meals in or on flowers. Really nice sharpness of the photo.

Cheers, Petru

Widze, ze tym razem cos z kraju "bratankow" ;>
Musze przyznac, ze tym razem punkty beda za kompozycje. Swietne, delikatne kolory i ciekawy kontrast. Szkoda natomiast, ze duza czesc zwierza (z wiadomych wzgledow - schowany) jest poza ostroscia i ze nie widac czesci przedniej owada. Ale za to jest w naturalnej dla siebie pozycji.

Nice colors with an interesting view inside the rose Michal.
Great looking beetle doin' his beetle thing :)

Czesc Michal,
Bardzo ciekawy okaz. Bardzo lubie mieszanke czarnego z czerwonym. Swietnie skomponowane. Troche poprawilem (workshop). Moze Ci sie spodoba...

Hi Michal,
i really like the pitted texture you've caught on this beetles back, the petals surrounding him are a beuatiful soft frame.
very well done.

Hi Michal,
excellent macro shot, the details and textures look fabulous.
Nice close crop which does let one focus very well on the insect.
Nice work.
