English name : Vanilla orchid – Scientific name : Nigritella nigra - Family : Orchidaceae

Description : A little lovely species with very dark red flower spikes and a strong scent of vanilla. In subalpine meadows from 1000 to 2800 metres. Blooms in July-August. Dimensions of the plant ~10/15cm and flower ~12/15mm.
Orchis vanilla was always regarded as a magic and even diabolic plant. It has virtues aphrodisiacs and used in the composition of philtres of love.

Hello Chris,

This is a beautiful alpine orchid. We got it in Romania too, but also scarce and rare, on few calcarous mountain peaks, more in the south part of the country.
Photo looks perfect technicaly speaking.

Cheers, Petru

Hi Christian.
I like your next charming art work so much. Beautifulness of the pictured subject is simply amazing as well as the skillfulness of the realization of your creative plan. Inclined composition is so impressive. Colours are nice and pleasant to eyes. Combination of details and sharpness of the fine flower and blurriness and colorfulness of the BG is great. Lighting is wonderful too. Bravo and kind regards.
Alexei.

Hello Christian!
This is really splendid photo! Great POV and DOF, also colours are fantastic. I like a black frame too, its makes this plant more exposed.
TFS and best regards,

Bonjour Christian,
Anne

What an amazing looking Orchid you have presented here Christian. It is just superb with its unusual looking flower. The quality of the image is grand. The colour of the background works well to show all the detail in the flower. Impressive.
Cheers,
Debbie

Bonjour Chrisitan !

Hi Christian

I love the look of these dark red almost maroon Vanilla orchids. The dense inflorescence is jam-packed with the beautiful little flowers. I am glad for your part that you finally managed to find and photograph this species after searching for it for so long.

The colours are great and it really stands out well against the lovely green background. The exposure was spot-on to capture the remarkable features of this dark red flowers as red is a rather difficult colour to show such detail and contrast.

Well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Chris,
This is an orchid I'd love to see! In Sweden it is extremely rare and only remains in a few places up the north. The sharp details and the colours in your capture are really wonderful. Beautiful soft green background too.
Many thanks and regards,Ulla

Bonjour Christian,
a strange flower to me, so this is very interesting.
Love the POV you choose to show off this lovely beauty. Colors, sharpness and composition look great.

Bonsoir Christian,
Catherine
