[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Secretary Bird shot at Marwell Zoo in Hampshire. I'm not normally in favour of captive animals, but with the way this planet is heading it is a great way for ourselves and our children to view these wonderful animals before they are all destroyed for good.
Enough said, I hear you all say, but so very true and close to home.
Enjoy them while you all can, and I hope you enjoy the photograph as much as I did capturing it with this wonderful pose.

Hello Richard,
What an interesting bird species was presented here by you :) I like its "head-dress" and colouration. Bravo also for POV and DOF.
Best greetings from Poland,

nice focus good colors unusual subject. while i'm not the pessimistic environmentalist you are i should note there is another advantage to zoos that you didn't mention. if people see animals they will be more likely to want to preserve them in the wild. if people hear that the secretary bird is going extinct and they've never seen one the normal response would be if it was of any use then people would be raising them and they wouldn't go extinct. but if they've seen one they may say "that was an interesting bird. it'd be a shame if they disappeared".

This is a great looking bird. I love the wild feathers. Great POV and framing.

What a fabulous bird this bird is! It looks like something out of a fairy tale. Wonderful lighting, great sharpness, and perfect colors! :)

Hello Richard,
I love this bird, perhaps because it's rather weird!! Your capture is excellent, I like the sharp profile and colours are beautiful. Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla
