Gairn, a small river of Crathie and Glenmuick parishes, SW Aberdeenshire, rising, on the eastern side of Ben Avon, at 3550 feet above sea-level, and thence winding 20 miles east-south-eastward along a mountain glen called from it Glengairn, till, after a total descent of 2810 feet, it falls into the Dee at a point 13/8mile NW of Ballater.

This photo was taking during a wonderful trip through the Cairngorms from the Glenlivet Estate to Breamer. We crossed this steep bridge over the river Gairn. Pulled over and made some photos of the bridge and the area.

This is a merge of two exposures via tone mapping. This to get the best out of the sky and landscape. As always, shot in RAW, and finally converted for TN.

Hi Niek
beatiful landscape,Excellent composition and POV.I love the colours of the heather, lovely sharp detail

Hi Niek, so you are back from Scotland, hope you had a great time. I known the weather for you must have been a mixed bag but you have used it to your advantage here with this beautiful scene. A merge of two exposures is good technique in certain situations like this. I appreciate this composition with this flowery foreground which gives a good colour and depth to the landscape. Excellent work..

Hi Neik
A beautiful view of the winding river, wildflowers, trees and sky. Natures seems to fall in it's place here in your image. The hillside and curve of the river. This is very good Niek...National Geographic quality.

Ha Niek,

Wat een pracht plaat
is er geen Puzzelfabrikant die dit wil uitgeven?
goed scherp met een prima lucht en leuke gekleurde bloemen op de voorgrond
schitterende diepte

Great deoth with the lovely flowers and the small river leading the eye perfectly through the wonderful scene.
Composition is excellent and colors, soft light and almost totally clouded sky are beautiful.

Well, aren't we both having fun with our Sigma 10-20 lenses? This is really nice. See I told you that you would get inspired again! I love the "S" curve leading into the scene. Colors and foreground elements are really nice. Merge is nicely done.

Hi Niek,
Perfect composition. The foreground is rendered with those beautiful pink flowers, and the way you created different layers and space using the shape of the landscape is excellent. I see you had another murky and cloudy day in Scotland..doesn't seem to have effected your photography one bit though.
Very well done.

Hello Niek,
A lovely landscape, and I bet there are some fine salmon in that river!
Interesting point of view with the diagonal road and the winding river, and the pink flowers add value...
Well done on post processing, the result is attractive!

Hello Niek !
Wowo, what an awesome picture this is ! The composition and the POV are perfect, I love these pink flowers in the FG and the river stretching out to the horizon. The dark silhouette of the pine tree is gorgeous, and I love the cloudy sky, who gives the picture av ery special atmosphere. Very well done !

Nice work, Niek. Great job with the composition. I love the flowers in the fg. I love the S-shape of the river, too, but especially the perspective lines converge. The most amazing part to me is that this doesn't look like a 10mm shot. I think the large scale, especially that large tree and the large scale of the river makes it look like a 35 or 50m shot! But I think the convergence in the river is the only clue to the 10mm lens. A wonderful shot, but intellectually very fascinating, too!

Hi Niek, splendid landscape with delicate colors, great composition with beautiful tree and lovely flowers, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Niek.
So you've started tone mapping? It's a great tool. I've been 'enhancing' some of my images this way for a while. It's great to get all the info out of an image and keep it looking natural, which you've achieved here perfectly. Great light and composition. Very beautiful. Your vacation was obviously very rewarding. Well done my friend.
Best regards, Steve.

Hi Niek,

Hi Niek,
Really beautiful view with lovely colours, great composition and a very smart frame.
TFS, José m.

Hello Niek,
Excellent vertical composition promoting that feeling of deep space nicely.
Lovely color & a well contrasted scene, with the winding s-curve of the river a treat.."A good photograph is knowing where to stand" :)
Very well done.

I have to say that this one has come out really well... I just wish I could get the hang on the photomatix software! It just never works with my shots!

Great heather in the foreground and wonderful tree...

(Keeping crits shorts so can get some in during lunchtime at work!)

Great shot! Beautiful pov and colours.
