First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for viewing and their great comments on my previous uploads. Much appreciated.

This time I show you a female brown bear with her around 1 1/2 year old cub peeping above the high grassess there were Brooks River runs in to NakNek Lake.

While walking from Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park to Brooks Falls one has to walk over a wooden bridge wich has been constructed over the outlet were Brooks River runs in to NakNek Lake.
On the other side of the bridge they did build one of the two around 12 feet high platforms wich one will find overthere.
The other one is just above Brooks Falls to wich one has to walk through the woods for around 2 miles.
They did build these platforms for the visitors to flee on to when bears come to near.
These are save places at wich the bears don't have a change to come up to.

This shot was taken while I was on that platform near NakNek Lake.
For a little while I already did see movement in the high grassess and because there was no wind at all, it had to be something else wich made the grasses move around :)
After 10 to 15 minutes my patience was rewarded by the popping up of two heads wich appeared to be this female brown bear and her cub.

Between the Nikon F5 body and the Nikon 500mm F4.0 lens I also had attached the Nikon TC14E Tele Extender wich gave me a focal lenght of 700mm.

I did use a monopod for this shot.

Thanks in advance for viewing and comments.Hope you like this image.

Hi Harry,
Cute capture of this popped-up heads :o) I like the expression you caught a lot, good timing. TFS
Best wishes,

Hi Harry.
What a wonderful moment that would have been when those heads came up. Superb lighting, composition, detail, sharpness, colour and interest as always. You do the most amazing images, always a pleasure to view your work and see behaviour and animals most of us will never get to see in their natural environment.

Cheers Chris.

Hi Harry,
beautiful shot, the colour of the bears contrasting with that sea of lush deep green is amazing. The poses of both bears are great and of course, super composition.

Excellent! Great shot in all departments! Bravo! Cheers, Klaus

Hi Harry

Greetings from Beijing.

What a coincidence - I was looking at the Brooks website earlier (I had to cancel a trip 2 years ago).

Fantastic composition with excellent colours and light. The focus is, as usual, spot-on.

Hi Harry, very nice pic, I love bears expression, wonderfull colours and good sharpness, I say: well done mister Harry

Hi Harry
This is really cool shot of this two bears with very nice quality in theirs natural environment. I have little workshop for you with some changes but only on the bears. Hope you like it :)

The bears stand out sharply amid the lush green surroundings in this picture, Mr Eggens.
They also seem to be on the alert and you have captured their expressions well.
TFS and regards.

Hello Harry,
Bears...they are so funny and cute you even might forget they could be dangerous.
Well composed image. I like the way they look, especially the little on...

What a superb shot Harry! Wow could it be better? It is very well composed and you must have paid the Bears a huge amount to get them to pose like this. Beautiful capture the light colours and sharpness excellent. A fine pair surrounded by the long grass. A prize winner.

Hi Harry,

This is a beautiful, heart-warming picture. I can feel the love between mother and cub. They look wonderful in the tall grass. Fantastic colors and such good details that we can see the expressions on their faces. Fantastic capture.

Hello Harry this is a well composed shot fine details nice contrasty light good pov tfs rgds Necip.

Hi Harry.
Very beautiful. What a lovely and awesome capture. The only small problem is your cloning effort along the top. You needed to vary it a little to make it blend in a little better. Maybe better to crop that small portion out. But takes nothing away from the lovely essence of the image. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

hermoso trabajo,

Hello Harry,
Even with the cloning of the background its still a pretty awesome picture. The saturated tall green grass creat the perfect stage for these gorgeous over-sized teddy bears. :)

Hi Harry
great picture with perfect compo.
Big point in this picture are the eyes which come out really well: many bear pictures just show dark spots

Hi Harry,
Outstanding shot of the Bear with its cub among the tall green grasses. The title is apt as they seem to be keeping watch on possible intruders, including you, ha ha ha. Very neat and sharp image with lovely colours and perfect lighting. Excellent POV to capture this attentive poses and a superb composition. Kudos.

Hi Harry, lovely composition with two bear, wonderful sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

can feel the breeze when looking into that very lively, precise, dynamic, well composed document of northern wildlife. Excellent contribution. A pleasure to look at. It really draws me out from my desk right into the scenery. Thank you! With best regards,

04 was just an excellent year for you. This is a classic shot. All I can comment on is how well you get them all composed. This is really inspiring for me.TFS

Once again a superb photo... You have hundreds of them...
The figures of the bears appearing in a sea of grasses, bent because wind that blows towards the bears' face.. and the protective figure of the taller... The smaller seems to be very young, discovering the world and still feeling afraid, or better said, having still a place where it can mitigate it.

The composition very good, color and light superb, but the most important is that the image tell us a story.

Hi Harry, I was wondering how close you could get to bears there so I had a look at Brooks Camp. I liked the one line from their web site, "Very close encounters are common and require visitors to move briskly". Ha, I guess its like being in the zoo, except you're the one on display. Very nice shot of this mother and her cub. Getting the fine detail, not just on the bear, but on the grasses around them gives it a life of it's own. Excellent composition and colour, beautiful shot. And the cub is checking you out.

Thanks, John

Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice day,

Hello Harry,
This one has that special quality one can only get in a true wildlife capture..Besides, they never let the grass get this high in a zoo ;)
I like the different shades of green through-out the tall grass. Very good details, POV, DOF, colors, and composition, interesting light.
And I see you're a wise photographer. The platform is where my butt would be too ;)
Very well done, have a Great weekend Harry.

Harry, lovely colors, sharpness and lighting.

I do enjoy composition too.

An excellent presentation.

Hello Harry.
A beautiful setting, simply a wonderfully composed photo. The stands of the bear really help to create a nice feel to the photo, what i mean it appears more than just a photo of 2 bears.
Wonderfully photo.

hi harry,
what a sensitive picture !
a marvellous composition, with enough empty space.
very natural colours,great DOF....
love the expression on their faces.
cheers - carole

Hi Harry

That is such a beautiful shot. Wonderful composition and perfect exposure. Wonderful eye contact from the cub

Hello Harry !
Another fantastic shot ! The pose of the bears is wonderful, they look so curious ! I also like the light and the colors, this green in the rass is splendid. Details, composition and POV are perfect. You have captured this beautiful moment with great skill, it's a real pleasure to look at !

Hello Harry,
this scene is wonderful! Female bears are always protective for cubs. The exposure, the light management and the sharpness are excellent. Thank you very much for sharing.
Best wishes,

Saludos.

Hello Harry,
One of the best picture about wild bears seen in TN, no doubt. The composition is simple but really beautiful with nice details and sunlight. The model acts perfectly for the occasion.

Your images are spectacular!
You show a wonderful simplicity with perfect exposure in all of the ones I've looked at.
I love the moment you've captured here!

Hi Harry

If it isn't the "wow" factor then it has to be the "cuteness" factor.

These two brown bears stand out like sore finger in the surrounding green grass. A wonderful moment you have captured here with stunning details (you certainly tamed that "Tele Extender"), good DOF range and a lovely composition with the animals standing on the 2/3 horizontal line.

Well done and TFS.
