Taking advantage of that does cold and the insects are not so active, I dedicated myself to take some photos from some of the little ones that can be seen in these days. This ant is a plague because it is possible to be lodged in ceilings or wood furniture, also looks for hollow places and until electricity measurers boxes , where I found larvae and many ants.
When opening the metal cover is left the larvae that some workers ants take and others when seeing the danger are sent to the emptiness.
When I see one of these anthills, I will try to obtain a photo.
They feeding on insects and sweetened solutions that obtain from extrafloral nectarios (nectarios not associated to the polinización) and from exudates of aphids or other insects.
In this occasion the ant is sucking sugared droplets taht springs of the leaf, a rose leaf. It atracts many insects: flies, ants, ladybugs..and predators like jumping spiders.
Taken in my garden in torrid december days, this year winter is hard here asnd there isn´t insects!

I especially like the light in this shot which helps very clear shadows to form on the leaf. Excellent macro.

Hi Hernan,
An excellent macro on this Carpenter Ant. Exposure looks very good with the nice colors and sharp detail. The texture of the leaf is well defined and makes a very good backround to show him.

Hi Hernan,
Outstanding macro shot of the Carpenter Ant with immaculate sharpness and clear details with spot-on focus. The green leaf as BG works wonders here and the lighting is superb. Excellent POV to portray its dorsal view and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hernan,
The thorax alone has three segments.
I've never seen an ant of this nature.
GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY.
Mario with friendly greetings.
