Helvella macropus (Pers.) P. Karst
Synonim: Macroscyphus macropus Persoon ex S.F. Gray

Cup 3-4 cm. across, thin-fleshed, grey, downy beneath, seated on a long slender stalk which tapers slightly upwards, solid, sometimes furrowed below, grey, covered throughout with downy grey hairs that cohere in minute tufts, flesh white. Asci up to 350 X 20 µm; ascospores elliptic-fusiform, distinctly more pointed at each end than in most Helvellaceae, usually with a large central oil drop and a smaller one at each end, 20-30 X 10-12 µm, surface minutely granulate at least when young; paraphyses cylindrical, rather sharply enlarged up to 10 µm at the tip.

In woods, both of conifers and deciduous trees, July to October. Common. Figured specimen from Pseudotsuga plantation, Glenariff, County Antrim,

A wonderful photo of this fungi,it looks like a water fountain,so unusual.Exceptional sharpness and detail.Great colours and contrast.the focusing and light are good.I like the soft background.
You really do have some amazing and awesome fungi in Spain

Hello Felipe and Cristina. this is an excellent close up shot of the Fungi. the detail is amazing.it looks like it should live under the sea.the colours are very good with sharp focusing. a nice POV/DOF. very good all round. TFS.good notes too.

Que sobriedad!
Me gusta muchísimo el aspecto cuidado de este encuadre, así como del manejo de la luz, que produce unos hermosísinmos colores.
Muy bueno para la compsición el antagonismo de direcciones entre las curvas del tallo y la inclinación del suelo.

I really do not know what to write about this picture to do not repeat always the some... ;>
Lovely POV and DOF, natural contrast and vivid colours, great control of light and DOF (probably because of F8), and of course - an interesting note.
