More Info on the Great Blue Heron

A Great Blue Heron wades the bay side of San Luis Pass at the far west end of Galveston Island. The Pass once was my favorite spot to go enjoy nature and the beach but rapid development is quickly bringing this oasis to an abrupt and costly end. Condos, apartments and houses are going up at an alarming rate on this lowest and narrowest part of the Island. Little if no protection is provided from Hurricanes and the tidal surge that accompanies them. With little thought of the consequinces, developers continue to pollute and destroy the wetlands and nursery areas that supply the Gulf of Mexico with an abundance of fish, shrimp and crabs. Reckless building on vunerable areas such as The Pass is the reason many insurance companies are canceling windstorm insurance along the Gulf Coast. The developers care little about the irrepairable damage they cause, thinking only of the almighty dollar. When will we learn that the Planet can only be so forgiving before She revolts as an act of self preservation? The delicate balance of nature can only endure so much total disregard for it's intricate workings before catastrophe ensues. When will we reach the limits of our careless actions and total disregard for the Planet?

Hi Jim
The Blue Heron is one of my favorite birds. It's sad to know how their environment is being eaten up by developers. You should see if the Nature Conservency could buy the land.

Nice capture of this Blue Heron wading through the water. The light is a bit harsh but a nice portrait just the same.

Hi Jim,

I'm so glad you left the shore in the picture. It gives a good perspective of how far out the Heron is wading. Lovely colors and details.

Hi Jim,

I share your dismay about "development for the dollar" and the lack of concern for preserving natural habitats and taking steps to prevent the eroding away of our shorelines. When will we learn?

Beautiful shot of the Blue Heron. Very sharp focus, excellent light, and nice colors.

Some will say that you should have a little more space at the bottom for this photo because, even though we cannot see them, the legs are long, and it is like cutting off their legs. I don't know if it really makes much difference, but something to think about, I guess.

Have a good weekend.

Ken

Great motion insinuated by the body posture - good. Wonderful composition. Great color.

I love great blues and this is much better than any I have taken. They seem afraid of me. Nice stuff...you're getting quite the portfolio..

YN...SK..Secret code for something:-)
