This was taken about 7o'clock in the morning, i was on my out to the river to take pictures of Dragonflies. In our garden we have had a pair of Blackbirds who have raised a brood of young. This one had just taken an early morning bath in the water put out for them and was drying himself off in the early morning sun. Hence the unusual pose.

Blackbird ( Turdus merula ) Length 25cm.
Familiar garden bird in much of Britain and Ireland. Can also be found in woodland, farmland and on moors. Mostly resident but North European birds add to numbers in winter. Male easily identified by Thrush like appearance and all black plumage, yellow eye ring and bill. Female and juvenile has brown speckled plumage. Harsh alarm calls often heard at dusk and if a prowling cat is nearby. Male is an excellent singer. Feeds on worms, insects, fruit and berries.

selam nick
i know the capturing of blackbird is difficult among the branches but your is successful
i like its pose, composition, colours, sharpness and informative note
thanks for sharing

Hi Nick,
Don't know how, but I've missed this lovely image.
What a wonderful pose of this youngster.
Seems like it's a bit shy being portraited for the first time in it's live :)
Light, feather details and clear eye with reflection are most wonderful.
Perfect sharpnes and great viewing/shooting angle showing the bird from a lower point of view.
Thanks for sharing and the good note.
Best regards,

I love the look of these babies - they look so unsure of themselves and often pose with their heads back like this. Real cute, well captured,
