|I found this Moss Verbena growing wild on the rail road tracks near my apartment. In the spring they can be found all over the countryside.|
About Moss Verbena
Moss verbena is a freely branching annual (or a tender perennial) that can get about a foot tall, but usually sprawls over and spreads along the ground, rooting at the nodes. A single plant may cover an area 3 ft (0.9 m) in diameter. The aromatic leaves have three lobes. Each is finely dissected into many linear segments that are about a quarter-inch long giving the plant an almost moss like appearance. Large clusters of pink, lilac, purple or white flowers 3 in (7.6 cm) across are produced all summer long. Each individual flower is about 1 in (2.5 cm) long and a 1/2 in (1.3 cm) across, with a slender, tubular base that flares abruptly to form a flat corolla with five petal-like lobes.

You must be wondering why I went back to one of your older postings to award my smiley. I just adore the colour purple and your photo "Moss Verbena" caught my eye while browsing through the gallery. As a newcomer I have missed out on so many of the older postings. Seeing this flower brought back some childhood memories to me as well. I am not sure if is the same flower, but it looks lot alike if it is not the same. These flowers grew wild near our home, and use to be such a wonderful sight looking at all these bundles and bundles of purple flowers blossoming. We use to pass this field on our way back from school. Sometimes there was a patch of white ones in-between at some spots. These flowers stems had a very sweet fluid and I am sure I would not do it now a day but we liked to suck this juice on our way from school. These were things that I totally forgot about, and just came to mind looking at this posting. Being able to recall all these memories makes this photo more than just special. Thanks for sharing.
