from wikipedia

The Gray Wolf (Canis lupus; also spelled Grey Wolf, see spelling differences; also known as Timber Wolf or Wolf) is a mammal of the order Carnivora and one of three species called 'wolf'. The Gray Wolf, along with the Coyote (Canis latrans), the Golden Jackal and the domestic dog, is a member of the small genus Canis; the domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), in fact, shares a common ancestry with the Gray Wolf, as evidenced by DNA sequencing and studies of genetic drift.[2] The Gray Wolf is the largest of its genus: its shoulder height ranges from 0.6–0.9 meters (26–36 inches), and weight from 32–62 kilograms (70–135 pounds). Its bulky two-layered coat can be gray, gray-brown, white, red, brown or black, or shades of all of these colors.

The Gray Wolf was once abundant over much of North America and Eurasia. However, as a result of habitat depredations and hunting, it now inhabits a very limited portion of its former range. The species is generally listed as endangered or threatened, although it is listed as of least concern for extinction for some regions, including the Continental United States.[3]

Hi Caroline,
This is good eye contact and the wolf is in a wonderful position to be photographed. Great POV and compostion,

Hi Caroline,
A nice capture of a beautiful species. Here, wolves are considered dangerous to livestock and there once was a bounty on them. So many are raised in captivity as pets that they are not really considered endangered anymore. In some Northern states they are even asking for the reinstatement of permits to shoot them. The eyes seem to tell a sad story. Interesting and unusual BG. Very well done.

Interesting texture and detail to the fur. Nice cool subtle highlights. Nice stars in the BG. I'm assuming that's from wire around the wolf. It's not only not distracting but adds an interesting effect. Not easy to get rid on that sometimes. Well done.

Hi Caroline,

Superb capture of this wolf. Excellent DOF and POV! My compliments! The sharpness - especially the eyes - is great. The fence in the background is not disturbing but gives this photo a special effect! TFS.

Hello Caroline,
Charming portrait.
What I do like here is the pose, the low POV, the DOF,...
What you should do IMhO to enhance your image is the following:
fence blurring or cloning, whatever....in the BG.
Nice image overall. Well done. Beautiful eyes with nice light in it.

Wonderful image. Excellent expression and detail. I think what people mean, when they talk about "disturbing" in regards to the background - is not so much an optical "disturbance", but the fact, that you see the wiremesh, that cages the wolf. Annicks suggestion about blurring it a little more is a good one!
Well done!
Cheers, Klaus
P.S.: Posted it to the workshop, to show what I mean

Bonjour Caroline,
Très belle prise de ce loup, je connais très bien le parc de La Reid, qui est dans ma région il y a des chouette photos à faire, celle ci est vraiment réussie, bon focus et excellent BG

Hello Caroline,

This is a lovely picture of our well known wolf! I especially like the low POV. You took the picture from the eye level of the wolf! The composition is very good and the eye contact excellent! The shade of the tree protected the animal from the strong sun thus allowing for a good exposure. A shame the wire fence is visible in the wonderful bokeh.
The details are sharp and well rendered and the colors look natural. You also captured great catchlights in the wolf's eyes. Well done! Thank you!

With Friendly Regards,
