[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Souslik was photographed at the same spot than the Steppe Polecat from my last post. In fact Sousliks are the main prey for Steppe Polecat.

From Wikipedia,
The genus Spermophilus is the largest genus of ground squirrels and the one that contains the species that are most common and familiar in North America. Members of the genus are found from western Europe to Siberia and Alaska to northern Mexico. They are sometimes called sousliks or susliks.

Ground squirrels may sometimes carry fleas that transmit diseases to humans (see Black Plague), and have been destructive in tunneling underneath human habitation. Though capable of climbing, ground squirrels spend little time in trees.

Hello Tom,
Excellent capture of this little Ground Squirrel. I likeits pose with the straight back!! Great sharpness and fine coloiurs. Well composed too.
TFS and regards, Ulla

I don't understand why this shot has so little points. It has great definition and very good composition, with sharp details and pleasant colors.

Well done!

Samuele

These guys look very much like Arctic Ground Squirrels, here in Alaska (same genus in fact). Your image is very well exposed, and the posture is great. I think this may have worked better as a vertical, he seems a little cramped in the horizontal composition.
