Southern Dogface

Indian Blanket Flower

I took a little break from preparing for rough weather, in case Dean heads this way, to take a walk and just enjoy the last of Summer. Although on the Island, Summer usually lasts until sometime in October. I discovered eight or ten of these Sulphurs flitting around a field of Indian Blankets and Sunflowers(and sharp-spiney-sticky little grass burrs). If Dean comes this way it could change the whole face of the Island. The last major hurricane to hit Galveston(She made landfall just a little to the South) was Alicia on August 18, 1983, she was a category 3. Dean could potentially make landfall as a category 4 or even a category 5. Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale Galvestonians had become rather lax in preparing for hurricanes, after every year getting ready and the storm went elsewhere, but Rita put the respect for Mother Nature and her power back in our hearts. Now we wait and watch.

It's A Hurricane

Cropped, enhanced, Neat Image noise reduction(a little too much) and resized for posting.

Workshop posting has no Neat Image noise reduction.

Just my luck to get sandwiched between two outstanding butterfly photos

Hello Jim!

Good composition, but poor quality and muddy-looking! Perhaps, due to over PP.
best regards.

Hello Jim,
Fine capture of a Southern Dogface on an Indian Blanket flower, the two making a nice splash of color against a dark natural OOF BG.
Though the sharpness isn't top grade the general impression of this shot is excellent.
We keep our fingers crossed that Dean fades out and/or keeps away from Galveston.
TFS and all the best,

Hi Jim,
A nice try with good colors and composition. But in my view the excess noise reduction has spoiled it. Anyway well tried with good notes. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Jim, beautifull composition, very good focus but colors are a litle over satured,

I worry about you guys on the coast all the time. Like I told you, head inland and we have a place you can stay. :)

I love this one for the colors...wonderful vivid yellow. WOW! You do great work and to think you just have a point and shoot camera. Very cool!!!

Hi Jim,

A good close-up image of the butterfly, the photo has a good composition and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Aha the old Southern Dogface trick eh? Wonderful capture Jim. That is one which is hard to identify...You're so cleaver.

Hola Jim.- Bello Macro. Exelentes colores de la Mariposa y La Flor. Me agrada la pose seleccionada y el fondo difuso. Saludos Luis52.

This yellow butterfly is beautiful Jim,
sitting on an Indian Blanke the flower looks
like blending on the red saturate color, TFS.
Best regards/Lawhill

Hi Jim,

The butterfly picked a beautiful flower to make a wonderful picture. Wonderful closeup with fine details and beautiful colors.

I'll be away for two weeks but will be back to catch up.

Nice warm colors. Good focus and composition. Well done.

Looks like Dean's hitting Mexico now.

Hi Jim,
What a coincidence! I just uploaded a Pieridae too, but a different specieas... I like to see differences between "old" and "new worlds"...
And concerning Dean, take care!!!!
TFS, Marta
