subspecies "roseus". The nominal subspecies "Phoenicopterus ruber ruber" called flamingo of the Caribbean lives on the American continent, in the Caribbean and Galapagos. This bird is a true curiosity of the European avifauna with a single silhouette and colourings on the continent: it is the only species of Phoenicoptéridé (family of the flamingos) represented in Europe. Only France and Spain lodge nicheuses colonies in Europe. The female is smaller than the male. The species is inconfondable: the bird posed presents an entirely pink body clearly, long webbed pink legs, a short and bent nozzle with black point. In flight, the characteristic silhouette is very lengthened (tended legs and neck): the wings are then quite visible. The primary and secondary rémiges are entirely black and the covers pink sharp with nuances tending towards the white. The immature ones (youthful or subadultes) are coloured little: the legs are dark, the neck and the dirty white lower part and the top marked of brown. The pink color appears during years up to 4 to 7 years when the intensity is with its maximum
