This weekend was very sunny in Istanbul and I had a chance to take macro photos on Saturday. I can say that the lenses are very very heavy for me!!! A suggestion: exercise to make stronger your arms before you try to take shots with a heavy lens!
This is the sharpest one from Saturday.I have some other shots with very good compositions; an ant carrying and insect, a crab spider on his lunch time…But technically awful!Anyway maybe I’ll share them…

The flower-flies or hover-flies are a family of flies (Diptera), scientifically termed "Syrphidae".
As one of their names suggests, they are most often seen around flowers; the adults feed mainly on nectar and pollen, while the larvae eat a wide range of foods. In some species, the larvae are saprophytes, eating decaying plant and animal matter in the soil or in ponds and streams. In other species, the larvae are insectivores and prey on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects. Aphids alone cause tens of millions of dollars of damage to crops worldwide every year, and so aphid-feeding hover-flies are being recognised as important natural enemies of pests, and potential agents for use in biological control.
Some syrphids mimic bees or wasps in appearance, in some cases bearing an alarming resemblance, both in shape and coloration. It is thought that this mimicry protects hover-flies against falling prey to birds and other insectivores which avoid eating true wasps because of their sting. Adult syrphid flies are important pollinators.
About 6,000 species in 200 genera have been described

I'm little afraid Sebnem, why did you wrenched off head of this poor hover ;-))) ?
Excellent pose - I've never seen picture of hoverfly with so turned head. Details and sharpness are also superb. I think this is one of your best pictures!

Fantastic macro Sebnem. You did excellent! How did you get so close to this wasp without him flying off? Sharp details and good POV. TFS!

Wow Sebnum, his head looks top-heavy, as well as your macros lens. It is an excellent macro of teh hover fly. So sharp and clear. It is so well done. Bravo!

Very good one. It does look as if the little guy was mopping the sweat from its brow! Excellent capture considering the very short DOF inherent to the circumstances.

Very good shot. Great POV and very good details.TFS.

Sebnem, This is an excellent shot of a very small subject..Great DOF, details and composed well. Really like this POV from below..Very well done.

Very good macro!
Details and POV are excellent!
Well done!

Excelent shot. Well done on this composition and details. A beauty.

Very nice composition, great POV and good details.
Well done.

This is a nice pose of the fly. Excellent POV and the details are fine. The DOF a bit shallow at F4.5 (try F8 as the largest when getting this close) I would have considered sacrificing some shutter speed to get a larger DOF. F9 @ 1/300s instead of F4.5 @ 1/600s. Both the long lens and short distance to the subject decreases your depth of field and you needed the smaller aperture setting. Its a lovely shot none the less. Well done.

Hi Sebnem, magnificent colors and a beautiful PoV. The oof wing towards us is a bit closing the body of the hoverfly but I know how fast you should be on shooting these insects.
Well done.
Thanks for sharing.

Great shot Sebnem,
excellent composition, details and sharpness. The colours are great.
You kept your camera nice and steady with that big heavy lens.
Thanks for posting.
Hope you share your other shots..

Hi Sebnem, lovely shot of this fly - the family is definitely Syrphus and my best guess for the species is S. vitripennis although I'm not 100%. Nice POV and good capture. Well done.

Sebnem new picture here, new picture on your introduction note. (Are you carrying one of these heavy lens on it?:))

I don't know - yet - what it means to carry a heavy lens, but I do intend to learn someday.

As for your photo, I do enjoy it. Despite the heavy equipment, you did great. An excellent composition with a very nice pov. Nice colors too.

Great shot Sebnem!
The POV is perfect and the colours are very good. I like the composition, but it would be also nice to leave more space on the left.
Anyway, the photo is almost perfect and I like it very much.
Well done!

I saw your last one, that was a very good one, but I go for this very good composing shot, the details are very nice, the pov is perfect and the dof is nice, you did a good job here.
gr. Jaap

The pose is very beautiful, with the head turned 90º and the leg on it. Details are amazing too. You take postprocess to the limit, for my paersonal taste a bit too much, but I admit is very effective.
P.D: You other shots are fantastic, good gallery. TFS.

A great macro shot.
The POV is really interesting, colours are sweet, and rhe detail level very good, especially considering your F-number.
A success, thanks.

Ellerinize sağlık Şebnem Hanım, kadraj, alan derinliği herşey çok güzel.

Very strong composition and the details are sharp. DOF maybe a tiny bit shallow but still a great photo.

Hi Şebnem

This is a very lovely macro of this little hoverfly. Looks like the little guy hands-upped for you. He must have thought your Nikon was a Canon. It appears like it was worth your while carrying that "heavy lens" and finally being able to capture this impressive shot. A far better way to build and strengthen those arm muscles than pumping dumbbells, don't you agree?

The composition is great with the fly positioned on the diagonal line. The colours are stunning and the details are superb. The DOF have perfectly isolated the insect from the OOF and well removed BG while the plane of focus is well noticeable on the leaf. The exposure control was great and at f/4.5 aperture & 1/1600 shutter speed you really nailed the lighting catching a number of interesting highlights all over the fly.

Very well done and TFS.

Hello Sebnem,
Good details and very well done on the macro work!
Natural colours and I like the composition, nicely blurred background!
