[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My Aladağlar Mts trip series continue with a small passerine bird species, Serinus pusillus (Pallas, 1811) – Kara İskete [TR], Red-Fronted Serin [EN], after an interval of 22 days.
It was captured in Mücan Plateau of the Aladağlar Mts. with elevation of 2602 m a.s.l. and coordinates of 37o 53'09.4" N; 35o 08'22.2" E.
They visit often water sources and springs and they are seen in small groups in thistle patches, eating their seeds.
This was taken from ruins of Turkish nomads (yörük)' plateau basic settlements. It is a young bird of S. pusillus with buff-brown heads. Adults have a blackish or sooty plumage with the foreparts are sooty and the forehead is red.
This species is a small one of the finch family Fringillidae and it occurs in the Caucasus and the higher mountains of Turkiye and Iran in breeding season. In winter, it can seen in Central Anatolia. Uludağ Mountain of Bursa Province is the most popular area in Western Turkiye for observation.

When I prepared this original note, I used partly Turkish tranlation by K.A. Boyla of Heinzel et al. (1995) and Wikipedia.
I also dedicate this shot to Ho Tony (gracious), who writes many good critiques for my posts, from New Zeland.

Juyona, haraprasan, cuckooroller, koruklu, gracious, Necipp has marked this note useful

Hi Ahmet,
For a second it had me going as the shadows make the coverts tips appear a little buffy. Nice little guy - first winter. Not too many photos of the juveniles around. Nice shot!
