I have seen many lovely photo’s here on TrekNature since I joined this e-community. Most of them from the Northern hemisphere were rich in colors and portrayed lovely flowers and landscapes full of greens. You might say outright that jealousy makes you nasty and you could even be right. But the tides are turning…

You see today is the official start of Spring in our neck of the woods.

Spring, like everywhere else in the world, is a time of renewal and rejoicing – when bright green buds appear on the trees and young grasses pop up from the veldt. Here in South Africa the grey winter is forgotten as the bright green foliage and the sear browns gives way to a riot of colour as thousands of small plants cover the plains in an iridescent carpet of flowers. Bringing with them a myriad of insects, spiders and other animals.

I have always been aware of nature. But I would like to thank TrekNature and all of it’s people I have exchanged critiques, jokes and pieces of knowledge with during my brief stay here. You have awakened a sense in me that was dormant for many years… my sight. I looked but did not see this lovely nature all around me. Only this afternoon I saw that the fruit trees started to bloom after the weekend’s first rains. The bees arrived, so did the first small spiders and the weavers were wreaking havoc amongst the leaves in the trees. I come upon a small nest with three eggs and can’t wait to see what specie it belongs to. I’ll keep a special watch for our dragonflies, darters, hawkers, demoiselles and the like, to compare to those I have seen here. This awareness makes me feel more alive than ever.

To all the people involved in starting this as well as all of you that regularly exchanges a kind word…

a very sincere thank you.

An ode to Adam and Robert

“It is too nice to write today,
you may beg and plead but still no way.
I'm going outside to play while it is light,
and maybe I'll write some more when it is night.”

Bonita composicion Gerhard, sobre todo por la perspectiva y la profundidad captada con las flores posteriores fuera de foco y ese cielo tan bello.
Excelente colorido y nitidez.

Pretty composition Gerhard, mainly by the perspective and the depth caught with the posterior flowers outside focus and that so beautiful sky.
Excellent colorful and sharpness.

Indeed as autumn starts here, we are welcoming the clear fresh colors of spring over there. But still you will have to race again the warm colors that autumn can bring here. A challenge ?
Nice composition of fresh deep colors. TFS.

moi aussi j'aime beaucoup cette photo par sa tendresse dans les couleurs et tellement bien cadrée dans le bleu du ciel...le flou en arriere plan est du plus effet , et l'abeille donne le petit plus a cette composition...bravo...amicalement BI

Very good Gerhard.

Yes! the tide is turning and I also love it. I have also had enough of this dull/cold season. You posted this on the right day as well, the official opening of Spring. I just hope we see as much rain as we have seen in the posting here on TN. You raised feelings of joy with this shot - Thanks!

And our summer (what we had of one) is coming to a close. I'm jealous, I wish we had another summer now. I havve no idea how what I am going to post when the bugs have gone!

Lovely shot Gerhard and I look forward to all your bugs to come!

Yes, a lovely moment of spring, Gerhard - the bee going at it on the blossom, and a wonderful bright color and light setting. Good for you to have spring starting, you have deserved it ;-) Great photo, and another wonderful note, well done.

Gerhardt, I appreciated hearing your heartfelt sentiments-especially concerning an "awakened" sight. I too have found new eyes to see the world around me. I see a photo opportunity regularly where I didn't before. Seems like I was asleep..And now I'm wide awake!!

Blomperske? Very nice, enjoyed your ode to spring to. Actually, you are ahead of me on this one, I have a type of abstract I want to post on our flowers and insects. Hope your leg is OK from that unproveked attack by MNR Bromvoël
