Get Your Own Branch

[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This White Crowned Sparrow, and many of his little pals for that matter, spent an entire afternoon darting in and around my campsite. I was in the Uinta Mountians (Utah) in the Christmas Meadows area look for moose and this is what I found...got to love natures little suprises.
The White Crowned Sparrow (zonotrichia leucophyrus)is very common in the Western US. They flock in the winter and live in thickets, woodland edges, and deserts. Look for them in the tops of bushes on warm days. Most spend the summer in th far north or in mountains (were I found this fellow). Some live year round along the pacific coast. Specifc color patterns vary with range but all display the black and white crown stripes. |

Hi Bryan,
Excellent shot of this sparrow, with super composition. I really like the detailed line of the branch and the plain BG. I feel that the general mood of the picture, though, is somewhat overcast, a bit gloomy. I think you could lightened this somewhat by adjusting down the upper range in Photoshop's Levels dialog, from 255 to about 200, for example. If you were to allow workshop postings of your pictures, you could see what I mean very quickly. Thanks for posting.

Great composition and details, very well captured. TFS.
Dean.
I like this photo, a very 'zen-ish' kind of image. Well composed. I get the feeling that the sparrow's head is too close to the top frame, but....sometimes that's how it goes. Nicely done, makes me feel like I'm looking at a Japanese painting.
