I think it is a small milkweed bug (lygaeus kalmii, familly: lygaeidae) or another member of this familly.

I agree that it looks like some type of Milkweed or Sheild Bug. I like your composition and how the insect is at the edge of the leaf. Very good colors amd nice detail here.
