Right...apparently abstract photos don't get a lot of attention...

...so i thought i'd go for something classic. I remember when i took this shot (and others similar to it) the gallery was full of them since they were so popular all across Europe. Now, as cold times are here, there will be fewer and fewer insect posts, so i think it's time for people like me to step up and share some photos i didn't get to share in the summer.

I'm sure you know this, but i'm going to say it even so: this is a Libellula depressa or a Broad-bodied Chaser male, a very attractive poser in Europe from late April all the way until mid September.

...and although this is a common species is a lot of passionate insect shooters here on TN, believe it or not, this is the first entry for this species in mine :)

Hope you'll like it!

This is an absolutely perfect shot Horia!!!
+++ Everything about it is perfect: Very well composed, sharp, detailed, great clarity, perfect POV, great colours, superb lighting, excellent DOF and the BG contrasts very well against the blue dragonfly.

Hola Horia,
espléndida macro,
nitidez y perfecto encuadre...
detalles excelentes.

Hello Horia,
Thanks for sharing this wonderful capture of an insect reminiscent of summer time.
Even in New Delhi, I see few dragonflies in our garden at this time of the year.
The image is superb in every respect.
TFS and take care.

Hi Horia,
Excellent macro image, very nice color and use of ambient light. Great details, I especially like the wing veins seen so clearly against this smooth OOF BG.
Yep, it's a "classic" (you forgot beauty) alright! :)

Hello Horia,
Superb capture of a male L. depressa and it's
nice to see it out of season!
This shot is faultless, the classic pose and POV being presented with total sharpness against a perfect bokeh.
Your archives is a real treasure chest!

hello Horia,
Perfect shot of this beautiful dragonfly. Simple, clear, efficient. I also like your more abstract picture..beauty is everywhere.
Best regards

Hello Horia,
This is a superb macro.
Absolutely tack sharp with perfect exposure and colour.
I guess this is how the scientists like to see them, but I don't mind arty shots.
Anyway, this is really good either way.
Fantastic work.
Well done!

wow, awesome back-view of the pretty dragonfly, horia! :-)
it does not always have to be the front - although the have nice eyes.
the tender blue-greyish body and of course the mosaicked wings are beautiful and perfectly sharp.
the brown spots on the wings would make a nice rorschach-test.*g*
excellent job & best wishes, thor.

Hello Horia,
Superb close shot of this beauty that looks very fresh. All in focus and excellent sharp details. I love the contrast between the light blue abdumen and the dark brown colour.
Looks really good against the plain background.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi my friend,
I love this photo very much. It looks like the photo in dragonflies book. It's the same my photographing style to identify and classify them. :-)
Excellent details and sharpness, nice composition and POV, well focused too.
Well done and TFS,
Best wishes,

Hi Horia,
This is a great macro shot. Very good details and sharpness on the entire dragonfly. Love the colours and the isolation from the bg.
TFS Paula

hi horia!
great macro with good sharpness
on the whole dragonfly,fine
exposure in the nice lightning
and a fine background1
good work!

Hi Horia,

This is stunning shot; the detail is absolutely amazing. I also love the composition, colours and light. Simply perfect.

Hi Horia,

it's impressive too this insect from this POV. Incredible sharpness.

Well done!

You are a bit like me as well when you see your patterns in nature as well as natural insects and animals. You probably find it hard to post a picture that does not contain a certain composition which you can see and some others can as well. This picture with the patterns in the wings and the vertical pose, blend together with sharpness and colour to make a gem. Not a rough diamond. A gemstone of a picture.

Hi Horia

Wonderful composition - super-sharp with great colours.

Sorry this is even shorter than usual - the internet went down yesterday and I have only a few mins left to write crits!

Hello my Romanian Friend!
Yes, you are right, the true artistic pictures are not so popular like "typical" documentary photos! But it always nice to see (at least for me ;>) both types of pictures! Really I believe that also for you it is less importnat to receive more and more points, it is better to show something what you as the Author like to presnet :) And I believe that this is the only correct way :)
Anyway, this "traditional" or "classic" photo is very good, and as always in cases of you Odonata photos it is a pleasure to watch it. So "classic" comment should include: very good DOF and POV, great details and sharpness, and a very nice, delicate BG :) But I would like to add something more: I'am waiting for next presentation - maybe something between "classic" and "artistic" ? ;)
Best withes from Lodz,

Hi again Horia, classic and wonderful composition of a splendid dragonfly with great details and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Horia,
well i have to say who cares whether your abstract shots get alot of attention! I thought the quality and idea behind it was excellent.
Anyway, i'm looking at this now, not the other one! As i would expect from you and you S2 IS, pretty much perfect...wonderful stuff.
tfs, and have a productive weekend my friend!

Back to the insect world I see. : )

You are good at it!! No question about that. It doesn't mean we shouldn't branch out and stretch a bit. This is a classic "text book" photo. Perfect sharpness and exposure against a lovely out of focus background.

Hi Horia. It pays to look back at your old shots somtimes . this is a fantastic close up. the detail is spot on . with your sharp focusing. natural colours. and a nice POV/DOF. very well done TFS.

Hi Horia,
How are you??? Fine apparently...:-)
Very good photograph!
Excellent sharpness, great compo, presentation okay,...
Was in SA for a while; you were still in the U-SA most of that time, I guess. Great to have you here.
Well done!

Salut Horia,

Very striking colours and detail, going to add this to favourites the b/ground is stunning perfect in every aspect...
Well done

Hi Horia.
I watch your picture with great pleasure. I like perfection in all. And this shot is blameless at every respect. In a word, BRAVO.
P.S. I have filled up note to my last post and added removed shot as a workshop. This is small example how I achieve desirable aims. These features have helped me very much with my scientific career and have allowed to achieve the highest scientific posts and academic status much before my colleagues – persons of the same age. Now the aim was alone to bring pleasure to our friend in his birthday by own pictures.

Hello Horia,
Perfect sharpness, vivid colour and so much details on this shot!
the exposure and focus is spot on!
very well done and well composed
