Hi all,
After I landed in india , godess luck has been smiling on me. This butterfly which i could not shoot earlier in my life suddenly showed up in front of me to be captured. This was shot in Lalbaugh, Bangalore when myself, Satish and GuruPawan went for a small photography outing :-)

This is The Chocolate Pansy or Chocolate Soldier (Junonia iphita) which is a butterfly found in Asia.

It is about 5-6 cm in wingspan and the female can be told apart from the male by white markings on the oblique line on the underside of the hind wing. The wavy lines on the underside of the wings vary from wet to dry season forms.

Individuals maintain a territory and are usually found close to the ground level and often bask in the sun.

Hi Goutham,
Welcome back home.
Your first ever shot of a Chocolate Pansy is truly remarkable.
There is a wonderful gloss on the wings which you have captured with deft handling of your equipment.
Have a nice day!

Hello Goutham,
the different chocolate brown nuances of the wing pattern are well shown by your picture. Due to point of view, the widely opened wings and the superb sharpness, the pattern elements can be studied in detail. Thank you for posting this nice and well-composed picture.
Best wishes, Peter

Perfect details,DOF and composition,
Superb shot,Welldone.

Goutham, Really a lovely picture. I find the similarity between the Chocolate Pansy and the Common Castor striking, especially the white spots at the tips of the wings.

Hi Goutham,
Is this the butterfly you told us about? If it is than you are very lucky and I know why you like this so much. This is a beautiful butterfly. Not so much colours but I like the nice brown colour and the nice pattern on the wings.
Good focus and sharpness with great details.
