[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
African White Back Vulture, Gyps africanus, taken at Liberty's Centre on a group photoday held there over the weekend.

With the weak sunlight falling on the front of the bird, and a dark background behind it was simple to expose for the bird and leave the background underexposed to black. Having no wire mesh or anything else in the way, and the bird being tethered on a stump in the open, filling the frame and composing the shot was straightforward, just a matter of waiting for the bird to turn his head to the right place. Small amount of fill flash used to get catchlight and fill in the shadows.

African White Backed Vulture, common throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and is the most common of the four African Gyps species, feeding on mainly carrion.

Hi Miles.
Amazing detail on this Vulture, excellent. Thats one mean looking bird. Superb lighting, exposure, sharpness and detail. Fill flash has worked perfectly, beautifully taken.

Hi Miles

What a shot, he looks great. I love the tight framing, it really makes him look intimidating. Lovely use of the fill flash to get the catchlight. Wonderfully sharp

Wow, what drama in this shot. B/W rendition works well here, could almost be a gargoyle image. Having said that the fine detail on the feathers is wonderful and light and shade thorouout is very good. Nie and sharp. Wonderful pov.
