Thank you for your critiques and comments on my Kruger National Park series, they are most interesting, useful and often a lot of fun.

Day 17 (17/20)
Photographed this little bird in restcamp Letaba.
Rather difficult to get a decent picture through the windy conditions(fast shutter speed), the amount of light, the small bird...
Thus the keeper ratio is really small.

The Red-headed Weaver (Anaplectes rubriceps) is a species of bird in the Ploceidae family. It is monotypic within the genus Anaplectes.

It is found in Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

It looks like a natural Xmas tree ornament Annick. Of course by the time you have a tree up, he will be gone...it might be used as a working model for a real decoration. Perhaps it is archetypal of a certain form of design. Well done..

Hi Annick, Just stunning well framed excellent detail really nice work well done Cheers Rick :)

Hi Annick

I also tried to capture one of these guys, but the keeper ratio in my case was zero. Too much continuous movement from the bird and those darn branches that always remained between the bird and my camera.

Your shot worked well though and you even caught it with the twig it its mouth while busy constructing the nest. Lovely colours, great complimentary BG, excellent sharp details, and superb composition.

Very well done and TFS.

Que dire ? C'est magnifique. Superbe composition, excellent bg. Bravo !

Prachtig decoratieve foto, Annick. De donkere achtergrond levert een fantastisch contrast in kleur op. De scherpte is, ondanks de wind, toch nog erg goed. Wonder mooie compositie.

hi annick!!

this foundation of his sweet home is really nice to watch!

Hi Annick.
This charming picture looks like shot taken in first-class studio. Amazing subject. Brilliant reproduction. Colours are wonderful as ell as all details of the twigs. Bravo, great (by subject and by execution) art work. My compliments and best wishes.

Hi Annick,
that is an absolute beauty, this shot, the maximum number of cookie points for all categories. Since you obviously know your stuff, no need to enumerate what makes the picture so perfect. A future classic! I love to look at it and mark it as a favorite.
Thank you for sharing.
Best regards

Hi Annick

Sorry i've missed so many of your splendid shots of the 2nd series of Kruger...i've just been very busy this entire week and it looks like the situation won't change for the up-coming one either. So please, take this as a future apology, too, because i might not get on every one of them :((

However, tonight i made some time and i had to check up on few of my favorite members here to see what they've been up to lately :)
I see a splendid shot here of this gorgeous architect here - the Red-headed Weaver. It always amazed me how well they know and manage to make those nests...just fascinating!
I see you've caught one in the beginning of the process and that actually makes the shot even more aesthetic - with that lovely circle around the bird.
The BG here i find very fitting and beautiful, too, for it brings out the colors of both the Red-headed Weaver as well as the nest.
As usually, pin-sharp and superbly focused and exposed.
It's simply a pleasure to watch your work, my friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Annick, a magnificent shot. I have seen these amazing birds in action in one of David Attenborough's bird documentories, the skill they have is awesome. Apart from being a great composition the pov on the bird is wonderful showing all of its lovely markings in the plumage and a great array of strong colours. Perfect focus and dof. Stunning.

Hi Annick,
Great catch. Excellent colors and details.
Well done. Amazing catch.

Hello Annick,
most tastefully composed ikebana arrangement with that cheerfully colourful weaver bird in the centre in front of a noble neutrally grey background. A lovely, very artistic contribution from the heart of Africa. Thank you!
My best regards,

Gee, I can't seem to keep up with you. Every time I check it seems I am three photos behind! I am amazed at the 1600 ISO. I noticed that the new Canon 40D has a 3200 ISO option! However the tests reports I've read show it to be a little worse with noise than the 30D. I think I marvel most at your wonderful backgrounds. The subjects are always perfectly sharp. This one was definitely a keeper. I have enjoyed your safari!

Hi Annick,
