[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yes, its the same tree as Finally but this time with a different focal lenght and taken a few minutes earlier. Here you can still see the sun above the horizon but also a slightly less colored sky.

The thing about photographing a sunset is that there are a few factors that make or brake a photo. The first and most important must be the sky conditions. A completely clear sky won't give you much drama in the sky. Heavy overcast will give you none. The second is probably the timing. Too early and the sky will not have the magic color and your photo will be bright. Too late, and the color is gone and you end up with a dull dark photo. The third is probably knowledge. Knowing where the sun will go down will allow you the extra time to find a composition and the time to set up your equipment before the show is over. But, you also need to understand that the sun will not set at the same location thoughout the year. Except for those who are located on the equator, they can set their clock and point into the same direction throughout the year.

I am sure that there are more factors to photographing a sunset, so feel free to add your knowledge.

Hi Niek,
beautiful sunset image. Sweet composition.
Lovely soft light and color as well as serene quality to this.
Beautiful framing also.

Hallo Niek,

Hi Niek

I have just been comparing the two shots and I actually think I prefer this one despite the dramatic sky in the first shot. The colours are softer and more serene. The framing works well.

Hi Niek
I like this one as well, I think the fact that more of the background gives it a more "theme" feeling, than a "subject" feeling that worked well in the Finally-photo.
That makes this photo seem unique and separate from the other one! A very nice detail with the sun there in the background, and a very good job with the light! Nice detail both in the dark and bright areas - well done! Very good sharpness too.
You did a good job here, and the photo is very relaxing to look at :)

Number 4: LUCK! : ) Although I suspect that you are much more methodical than I and probably don't rely on luck as much. But it is definitely a factor in photography. My favorite quote is: "Photography definitely depends a lot on luck. But the harder I work, the luckier I get."

I like this version as well. The presentation is nice. I like the sun still peeking above the horizon yet not so brightly that it is burned out. I love the soft gradation of color from peach to pink to lilac.

Right now...i'm kinda envious on that tree :)
Another wonderful shot, Niek and also some very good points on low-sun shooting!
I lack of any other subjects, i remember going out to photograph certain buildings at night and that flat black sky is really a bummer...definitely timing is of the essence in those very short moments of interesting and impressive sky, which in fact make a good landscape shot.
In addition to your facts from the note, i would add a collateral one - a filter. Just like in this case here, it turns the light down from the upper part and sort-of concentrates the viewer's attention to the horizon and the colorful areas around it. It's not a "must", but it's definitely a great "plus" :)
Well done, once again!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Niek

I love the contrast between the tree and clouds. The colours are subtle and effective. Great framing too.

Hello Niek,
The atmosphere is typical autumn and well recorded!
The thin veil of clouds, touched by the setting sun is pure beauty, enhanches by the naked branches of the lonely tree...
A well composed presentation, attractive colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Very nice work again Niek,
I like both, the colors of "Finally" are more dramatic of course. But one this has the sun at the horizon, and the wider panoramic FL..Hard choice :)

Hi Niek.
Terrific delicate colour tones of the sky: pleasant and clear with huge dynamic range. The pictured scene is so artistic. Shapes of the alone tree, horizon line are looked very nicely. My best wishes and TFS. Excellent job.

Hello Niek,
The lone tree makes a great perspective on the whole composition and it's great!
good low pov with depth, sharpness, soft-toned colouration and details, a good sunset composition

I Niek,

The light here is spot on, with just enough detail showing the foreground. The sky is great and the composition perfect.

Hi Niek,
whilst this is a great shot in it's own right, technincally it's excellent, i have to say i prefer the other one from here, as it has better lighting, vivid colour and more of a dynamic sky in my opinion.
It is still without doubt a real gem though, well done.

Hi Niek,
Color tones, and the view is so beautiful. Wish I could see something like this now from my window instead of the grey skies... Composition, POV and details are very good. TFS
Best wishes,

Niek, this is a beautiful composition of the sunset.
The light is just right to lend the landscape an aura of mystical peace and tranquillity.
And thanks a lot for your kind words on my 500th post.

Hello Niek,
What a wonderful sunset scene. I love the silhouette of the lonely tree against the beautiful sky and the distant landscape. Beautiful cloud formations too. Great DOF and very well framed.
TFS and regards, Ulla
