Photo is a male Steenbok in the savannah.

The Steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) is a common small antelope of southern and eastern Africa. It is also known as the "Steinbuck" or "Steinbok"; not to be confused with the Dutch-language "steenbok" which is an ibex.
During cool periods, Steenbok are active throughout the day; however, during hotter periods, they rest under shade during the heat of the day. While resting, they may be busy grooming, ruminating or taking brief spells of sleep.

Is it just me, or is this Steenbok smiling for you?!
Great timing to capture this pose Annick, perfect DOF and beautiful colour...very well done. I'd never heard of a Steenbok before either, so thanks.

Hi Annick

Lovely shot and pose despite the overcast conditions (although I find I often get more detail in these conditions). The DOF is spot-on and eye contact wonderful.

Hello Annick,
I must thank you for posting this excellent image. I agree with James he does look like he is smiling at you. The other thing I have never noticed before is how the markings on his face makes it look like he has three horns, thanks again Annick.

Lovely well composed photo of this delicate animal. The detail is excellent and you don't seem to have lost anything by using a 1.4 converter. I will certainly use my converter in the Kruger park this December/January after seeing your results.

Hello Annick,
This is a very beautiful antelope that you've capture so well here! I love its pose looking straight at you and the way it's half-hidden in the grass. The details and the colours are really wonderful as well as the soft grey background. Excellent shot!
Many thanks and regards,Ulla

Superb pose with great eye-contact!
Brilliant DOF and BG.
Soft lighting and good colours.
Well done,

Another gorgeous documentary image and superlative capture. The Mark III with a decent lens takes a great photograph and makes it technically better. Kudos

Hi Annick

This is one funny looking fellow :))Really!
The pattern of dark fur on his nose really immitates another horn like the ones from the head...plus he is also smiling :)) I like him! He looks like fun :)
A splendid shot my friend and once more a great use for a shallow DOF is the focus is spot on (like it is here).
The Steenbok is very well isolated from the FG and the BG and presented with sharp details, amazing but stil natural colors and put in a lovely composition.
Outstanding work!

Bravo and TFS
