I was really taken by the colours and patterns formed by my local river as it cascaded down and just had to try to capture an abstract of it... partly "just because" I thought it might be an effective shot and a good test for my new lens (!), and partly as an ironic tribute to the sheer amount of water that's pouring down over here at the moment! ;-)

I tried a few variations in terms of shutter speed but felt this was just enough - more and the blur lost its identity as water.

Gave the image a slight saturation and contrast boost in photoshop to bring it out a little.

I'm quite pleased with the result - hope you are too!

Thanks for looking, Doug :-)

Cool abstarct Doug. Really captures the color and water movement well. Pleasing composition. You have a good eye to notice the unusual.

Very nice Doug,
the Nikkon seems to work really well with this lens! Perfect choice of shutter speed to get the effect you wanted and very well composed - it looks almost like brushstrokes. Hope you don't get hit by the floods my friend, i see it's going to be very wet again up there..when will it end??
Paul

Hi Doug

This is absolutely wonderful!!!
A splendid abstract filled with geometry, lights and colors!
The shutter speed you picked is i think perfect for the job and gives perfect the feeling of movement while creating that interesting pattern.
Very good tight composition (thanks to that nice new lens of yours) and superb exposure management.
Brilliant work!

Bravo and TFS

Doug

Splendid shot, looks like something that would be streaming through willy wonkas factory. More seriously, top shot that works well.

Hi doug

Well I think you succeeded too.

It's certainly abstract, but it's well captured and achieves the aim.

Well done.

Hi Doug, wonderful abstract with nature, I love that. I have tried myself at abstract with water and reflection and it is not obvious to do: you need to have a remarkable eye! Thanks, it is technically perfect and my eyes love it.

Hi Doug,

Very creative what you're presenting us here. Without reading your notes, I would'nt have been able to say it was water. Lovely mixture of colours, nice movement also, I really like it! Well done!

Lise
