[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It has been a tough time getting in touch with TN, I got back from a business trip of eight days and I am glad to share this space with my fellow tn friends who were missed a lot in last couple of weeks.

This is frontal closeup shot of The Praying Mantis who is looking straight to the lens of the camera.

we are going to celebrate Republic Day on 26th of January and its a holiday here and I hope to shoot my first picture of 2008.

The Constitution of India came into force, and India declared itself as a "Republic" on January 26, 1950, a date thereafter celebrated annually as Republic Day in India. (source : wikipedia)

Hi Pankaj
I like black background and scary moment. Your shot is also nicely composed. Unusual but very interesting note. Unfortunately there are big problems with sharpness here and it is spoiling very nice image
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Pankahj, welcome back and a fine portrait with awesome pov of the Praying Mantis. I have to say I love shots of these very interesting insects, they look so different in many different views. This head on shot is dramatic and strong, works very well against the dark background. Great focus, sharp details and good colour range.

Hello Pankaj,
Nice to see you popping up again! I expect you're feeling a bit like this blurry-eyed Mantis after your business trip! ;-) I like its pose and the green colours stand out nicely against the black background. Nice composition!
TFS and regards, Ulla

I saw this movie:-) So glad you have returned to bring your special kind of joy in images Pankaj..Only 8 days and it seems as though it was much longer.

A fine image..You have quite the affinity for these creatures...Very nicely done of course...I like how it sticks out from the dark background as if it were alive right now on my screen.
Bob

Hi Pankaj,
Good to have you back here with us photo fanatics.:-) You acheived a fine point of view here to look this mantis in the face. There is some good detail seen though greater DOF would benifit. The flash gave you a dramatic lighting with the black background which is very nice. Enjoy your holiday!

Hi Pankaj.
My congratulations on Republic day to you and other out Indian TN members.
I am glad to see you here with new picture. Close-up is really very interesting. Its subject is so attractive. I think sharpness is OK. May be DOF is shallow a bit despite the small aperture value. May be you were too closely to the subject. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Pankaj,
This would have been a superb capture of a Praying mantis if you had focused on the head instead of the thorax, which means that you have lost the advantage of the small aperture as the thorax is sharp.
Otherwise this image is well composed and the slight softness of the head gives it a mystical feeling.
Great that you could find time to be on Tn in your busy life,
Ivan

Great portrait shot Pankai , fantastic compositie colours details bg and framing ,good job ,Greetings Teunie .

Thanks for your detailed critique on my Bee Eater picture, Pankaj.
Coming to your shot of the Praying Mantis, the POV is excellent here. The insect looks you directly in the eye as it holds on to its perch on a stump with apparent self-confidence. The colours are natural despite the use of fill flash which is rather strongly reflected on the eyes of the subject.
Happy shooting in the new year!

Hello Pankaj,
Wow ! You have an impressive gallery, but I was attracked by this beautiful photo !
The "+++" : composition, nice subject and good pose, POV, sharpness, DOF, contrast on dark BG, instructive complementary note...
The "-" : nothing...
Good camera work and thanks for sharing,
Christian

eeeek! A scary Mantis...this is a nice close up for sure. It looks like there is something wrong with the pupil in eye. The dark background enhances the Mantis so well. Nicely composed.
TFS Janice :D

Hello Pankaj,
A fine pose and a funny capture!
For some reason the insect looks like a happy fellow, smile to the world and the world will smile to you!
Good colour reproduction and sharp fine details!
Greetings,

Hello Pankaj, very nice macro again, well composed and great technique, thanks!

bonjour pankaj
la tête semble un peu moins nette que le haut du corps mais je trouve ce portrait agreable a l'oeil.
les couleurs sont naturelles et la mante se detache bien sur ce BG noir.
