Another brave bird out in the rain. Even carrying a few droplets on his tail feathers. I love watching these juncos, especially the bright streaks of white when they fly away. There are six sub-species of the Dark-Eyed Junco. I believe this is the Oregon sub. A pale male adult.
Dark-eyed Junco: Medium sparrow with considerable geographic color variation, although all exhibit a pink bill, dark eyes, white belly, dark-centered tail with white outer feathers. Short flight with white outer tail feathers flashing, alternates several rapid wing beats with wings pulled to sides.

Range and Habitat:
Breeds from Alaska east across Canada to Newfoundland, and south to the mountains in Mexico and Georgia. Spends winters south to the Gulf coast and northern Mexico; vagrant in Iceland, British Isles, continental Europe, and east Siberia. Preferred habitats include openings and edges of coniferous and mixed woods. In the winter, frequents fields, roadsides, parks, and suburban gardens.

Remarkable shot! Great DOF, POV, coloring, and clarity. I love the water droplets that are on the tail too! Great job!

Great job with this Junco, but it should be named an Oregon Junco, I have just started photographing these here at my house in AZ,

Hi Penny,

You did a nice photo despite the low light conditions. I like the combination of gray tones in your photo. Also the clear details of bird look great.

Best regards,

Hi Penny

This is stunning. Love the neutral colours. Very nicely composed. Good catchlight in the eye. Nice camera work. :-)

Hello Penny,
I'm very fond of this little bird although I've never seen it for real. This is a lovely shot, very sharp and in fine natural colours. I like its pose too. Well done in poor light.
TFS and regards, Ulla
