At least I think it is a Spottedbacked weaver. In breeding colors. The image isn't really what I expect it should be. No further comment. Up to you;)
Busy to try to install the CS3 upgrade. Second attempt
after yesterday's try....ppffff. I have an old CS3 beta version, wonder if that might cause the trouble.
Worth mentioning...it is a rather big crop. Take into discount the iso 800 and quality wise...you know.

Thanks!

Update: Thank you, Steve. I refer to the critiques and the thread. It is actually a Southern masked weaver and not a Village weaver.
It is good as now we can compare

hello annick,
fine capture of Spottedbacked weaver, the almost uniform and monochrome bg makes the bird atandout well in the composition, nicely composed shot, liked the eye contact,
well done,
tfs & regards

Hi Annick,
Kind of a toughie, and I can understand your ID.

However, not Village Weaver. The reasons: the thickness of the black above the upper mandibular insertion (Village has it thinner); the orange-buffy wash on the posterior forehead and crown (absent in Village); the less massive bill (respect to Village); the hard to see, but still perceptible thicker yellow primary edges (respect to Village).

So, adult male Ploceus velatus (Southern Masked-Weaver).

Nice portrait!

P.S.: So as not to confuse - Village Weaver aka Spot-backed Weaver - same bird.

Hello Annick!
Beautiful bird in very optimistic colours :)
Good sharpness and details too.
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hallo Annick,
Dit keer zijn het vooral de contrasterende kleuren in deze foto die ik erg mooi vind. Deze maskerwever staat er schitterend op. Goede scherpte met een verbluffend goed oogcontact en prachtige compositie.
Groet,
Peter

Hello Annick,
What a beautiful Weaver bird very well captured. A nice profile with fine focus on the eye. Amazing black markings, not quite a mask. Very clear against the neautral grey background.
Many thanks, Ulla

Hi Annick,
beautiful colours on thie Weaver!
We can see evidence of a heavy crop yet the quality is still superb.
Great composition and POV.
The DOF is also great!
Well done,
Joe

Cool birdie Annick..I like the layed-back pose :)
Everything looks very good, but I see some areas about the bird where you missed on the NR..
I know what you mean..I struggle with getting lower ISO usage..Would love to have a lens that was brighter..When R U shipping that lens over for the weekend? ;}}
Excellent post again mf,
