Distinguished from yellowbilled Oxpecker by having an all-red bill, bare yellow skin around its eyes and a dark, not pale rump. Imm : has a yellow base to a black bill and a darker than the imm. Yellowbilled Oxpecker showing a dark, not pale rump. Habitat : Thornveld and broad-leafed woodland. Common in the north and est africa. Prefers to associate with hairier mammals such as giraffe and buck.
