My patience is running low :)

I already see people from Europe taking macro photos of insects, while here in Romania another cold wave just hit... :(

I am so eager to see everything green again, to see butterflies on blooming flowers, to hear a lot of birds singing in the trees, to hear frogs quacking in the ponds and to see dragonflies emerging and flying again :) Soon...soon...

Until then, this is a small collage i meant to post last year but never got around to, showing a very young adult dragonfly emerging from his larva.
The species is Gomphus vulgatissimus - or the Common Clubtail - the most commen and widespread Gomphus species in Europe. It is a medium sized species with club-shaped abdomen. The males are black with extensive yellow markings on thorax and abdomen which turn green when mature while the females are just black with extensive yellow markings.

I know the BG for these photos is far from good, but i really didn't want to disturb this very delicate process and so i didn't touch anything around the dragonfly. I also hope to find some more dragons emerging this year and maybe get some better condition then :)

Thanks for looking :)

Hi Horia

Great sequence - the detail is really good in each one - plus the colours are excellent. A well observed and captured shot.

James

The photo sequence with all perfect focusing, sharpness and BG is very good. TFS

Hello Horia,
be patient! It's still winter season and nature requires more coldness so that it can develop properly in coming spring and summer.
I think during winter months we can enjoy all the nice pictures taken in the last season such as your present contribution.
It nicely shows hatching of the dragonfly and I hope that you will show a picture of the insect
with fully developed wings.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Horia,
Don't worry. Spring is in the air;-).
Very good moment and very educational...
See you...soon...soon..

Buna Horia,

Deocamdata in Dobrogea a venit iar iarna....

Dan.

Archives or not it is a worthy montage! A pane full of action...almost like a strip of 35mm movie film...very nicely done in the cutting room so to speak. Fine detail and believe tis! Spring will come!
Bob

Buna Horia
Cand eram pasionata de insecte (pt licenta) libelulele erau favotitele mele. Insa nu am avut ocazia sa asist la un astfel de specatcol!
Reusita seria ta!
Si ai rabdare, va veni si primavara!!!
Numai bine,Oana

Perfect capture of this magical moment that shows one of the greatest things IMHO.

Hi Horia, I think the background is great. It is very natural looking for this great collage. You've got very good detail and colour, even at this size. I can just imagine what this would look like on your terminal, before the resizing exercise. Your framing of these shots was complementary to the shots to give us an excellent presentation.

Thanks, John

Hello Horia,
Excellent presentation of this slow emergence!
I can't wait either, but it's not long now and the other day I saw the first butterfly here - a Brimstone, but I didn't have my camera! These three images are all very sharp and the colours natural. Well done! I find it hard to tell what species they are as they are emerging.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

We do have insects now but all I've seen is a ladybird, fly and another kind of fly :-) We'll have to wait another month until the insects all explode in to life! I can't wait for the dragonflies and damselflies to appear! I think it's April at least :-(
It looks like you made the most of last years macro season anyhow!
This is a splendid capture of this emerging Clubtail!
I have no problem with the BG! I think it's very natural and shows this dragonfly's reedy habitat.
Great clarity and detail.
Superb montage Horia!
Cheers,
Joe

It won't be long my friend! You must be more patient, it is only February ;o)
Meanwhile, you can be glad that you have some great shots still tucked away! Each one of this trio is a beauty, with fine detail and wondeful colour. From an educational point of view, it would be hard to better this.

Hello Horia,
My patience is running out too! We are going to have a cold weekend :(!
But you have saved a nice series to whet our appetites for the summer. Great triple collage of G. vulgatissimus emerging with fine technical qualities showing how your could the best out of your S2 IS.
Thanks for sharing this one,
Best wishes, Ivan

Dear Horia!
After some days, but finally I am back here :)
Lovely and very educational presentation! The timing was perfect and you showed a very special moment from insect's life. Moreover you kept in very professional way details, sharpness, and you also controlled in perfect way light.

And one more thing... Eh... when I look at you picture I want only one: SPRING!!! :)
Greetings, Radek

Hi Horia,
This is a precious sequence that clearly shows us this strange process. In this case you patience paid off with this nice document with superb details, exposure and composition. This is something we don't see often! You should see the king of winter we have here with snowstorm, after snowstorm… It’s the never ending winter :) Thanks,
Claudine
