This is another shot from way back last May :)

However, it shows a very rare species here on TN, a species with rather big importance in determining conservation areas, at least in some regions of Europe.

The name is Coenagrion ornatum - the Ornate Bluet, one of the 13 species from the Coenagrion genus in Europe.
This species is the eastern ecological counterpart for C. mercuriale inhabiting similar streams. The two species overlap widely in central Europe, where both species are very local, but often occur together in suitable streams. The black marking on the male's S2 has been linked to a bird, bat butterfly or other winged creature, but the ragged border of the postocular spots is perhaps the best distinguishing feature.

I hope to find this beautiful species again this year, too - for both photographic and ecological reasons :)

Hope you'll like it and have a great week!

Buna Horia,

Foarte bun macro si nu in ultimul rand bun comentariu.
Foarte buna claritate si lumina. Culorile sunt foarte frumoase si naturale. Compozitia, cu putine elemente, canalizeaza privirea spre subiect.

Nice shot of these rare damselflies!
It must have been even rarer to see a mating pair!
All the Coenagrions look very similar so it must have been hard to I.D. this!
Great image quality.
Superb DOF and BG.
Great composition.
Well done Horia!

Hi Horia,
another gem from your archives my friend, wonderful composition and a perfect DOF. The surrounding green really makes these two stand out...it won;t be long until you can get some new material!

Hello Horia,
Perfection all over. Specially colours, sharpness, details and composition are amazing.

What no red?:-) It would the of course be RGB...but that matters about nothign except coincidence...I love the blue..It is among or close to my favorite blues...and it doesn't clash with green at all thanks to the black outlines...Very nicely done.

bonjour horia

Hello Horia,
a fine species, fine specimens and a fine picture.
The unique body colour pattern is shown with great clarity and sharpness.
The backgroud composition is also very nice.
I hope that you will find the species this year ... for two reasons!
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Horia

A lovely shot with exceptional detail and colour, plus an interesting note.

Very nice shot of these Ornate Bluets Horia. Excellent colour and detail, and the long portrait format suits your composition. Very effective use of your depth of field to focus in on the dragons and front plant, while muting out the background.

Thanks, John

Hello Horia,
What an amzing and effective POV when taking a pair of damselflies in copulo!
You capture this pair of C. ornatum sharply and with good Dof and details and the composition against an OOF natural BG is great.
This rare species does not, of course, occur in Sweden unfortunately.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,

Ciao Horia,
non avevo mai visto questa splendida specie.
Complimenti per la magnifica foto.
Lo sfondo verde omogeneo mette bene in risalto il corpo azzurro e nero di questa rara specie.

Not only is this picture perfect but your comments are also very interesting. I like the verticality of the composition and the nice blurred background. This is a beautiful insect and I don't think we have them here. Thank you Horia!

What are they doing to each other? :) Beautiful blue color. excellent detail for such small creatures to be enlarged to this size. Thanks for cheering me up.

Hi Horia.
This is one from your famous collection of pictures taken with camera which you have glorified. What can I add? I think nothings. This is outstanding by subject and skill work. My congratulations.

Hello Horia,
I've missed this excellent capture of this rare species of Damselfly. I like your POV and the sharp details. Natural colours too and a fine green background. Coenagrion are so difficult to identify so I nearly gave up last summer - perhaps I'll have another go when they appear again!!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla
