[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

this is the view west from underneath Houns Tout, at Egmont Bight. The spot where i took my last post from is right at the end of this small bay, just underneath that small headland, called Freshwater Steps.
This small promontory is a bit of an obstacle, and is the only thing blocking a route that would otherwise allow you to walk along 5 miles of rugged shore unhindered. Even at such a low tide as this, you still need to take a swim to get around and carry along the shoreline to Kimmeridge Bay..maybe one for the summer.
The bottom 12 feet or so of the cliffs here are made of millions of crushed Ammonite Shells, and are pretty loose and unstable with constant little landslides and the occasional unsettling bigger one!

Thanks for looking..

Really beautiful, Paul!

I love the FG textures given by this huge rock here but also the excellent leading lines it provides your composition with!
The uneven surface also has some very small puddles which allow a lovely reflection of that magnificent blue sky...all these come together perfectly here!
Another thing i like about this is those two rocks on the right - a very good focal point for this scene and a great bonus of color to the image.
The cliff looks great, too and had a wonderful reflection as well, completing this shot and making it a sheer beauty!
Just one question though: you said one must go around this promontory...why can't they just walk on it? :)
Anyway...i just love what you managed here, my friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Paul,

A good seascape with beautiful colours, what should i say?
Well done!

Regards Gert

This one pulls off a neat trick Paul...the beach lines draw the eye back toward the middle then eyes switch up and to the left again with the curve...Makes for good eye fun1

Hi Paul!

I love the details and colors and the pov as always, but this time I found something interesting. Following the lines with my eyes - and you usually expect they lead to something but no - I found they meet right at the wall, your eyes simply crash into the unbreakable! It works very well here adding something extra to the experience, I like it very much... TFS!

Best regards,

Bonita y elegante forma de mostrarnos la marea baja Paul. Aparte de la belleza del conjunto del paisaje destacaría sin duda la luz y sus reflejos suaves en el agua.
Un bonito trabajo.

Hey Paul, nice landscape. Is that beach made from slate? Seems like it would be a good place to find a variety of fossils. Great perspective and colors. Well done.

Hello Paul,
very impressive scene!
The lines in the rock lead you straight towards the headland and recent landslide.
Very good composition as usual.
The harsh lighting is fantastic!
Sharp with incredible clarity that conserves every little detail.
I always wonder how you find beaches like this that have no people on them! Do you cry "SHARK!!!!!" to scare them off or do you just find the most isolated beaches to take photos?

I reckon this photo would be a good one for the cover of your book :-)

Cheers mate,

Hello Paul,

The composition here just jumps out and bites you! Excellent! The headland severes the blue of the sea and sky like a huge sea sepent!
I like how the breaks in the rock strata in the f/g act as leading lines and draw the eye back to that sepent!

Lovely natural colours!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Many thanks for your warm comments on 'These are females!'

Hi Paul,
Lovely capture of this interesting seascape.Rocks on the foreground look beautiful. Good choice of POV and composition, very nice colors, exposure handling and lighting. TFS

Hi Paul!

I almost can't follow your rythm, almost one picture every day! Where the hell do you guys get the time for that, eh? I should start to play at the lottery...

Hmm, when we're talking about money: Paul, you should begin to play at the lottery, too! You absolutely need a better lense! That dark, almost black part at the top of the picture - most of the time the sky is concerned - lessens the value of your pictures. You're such a good photographer, can't you ask your wife to work a bit more?

Ooops, I hope she won't read it. But she probably also will believe that I'm kidding.

Well, beside what I mentioned it's a typical PaulH picture: a low point of view, a fantastic composition of a not less fantastic landscape.

Kind regards

N.B. Oh, and try to do the same picture without polarizer; compensate it with a slightly improved postprocessing (levels). You'll get more natural skies...

Hello Paul,
This composition is outstanding with the amazing shore formation in the foreground and the rising cliffs. Super job Paul, thank you.

Hello Paul!
After a few days I am here again :)
Interesting title to this wonderful picture. Especially that these cliffs strongly suggest that this is a part of marine coast :) The colour of rocks is amazing, so dark!
I like also a frame, thanks to t the photo looks much more "panoramic". And this is really good for watching!
All the best from Lodz,
