[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Puma, from the rare Leopard project I visited last week.
I spent quite a while sat, just a few feet away from this Puma, who didn't seem bothered about me taking photographs of him.
I have posted a similar profile shot as a workshop, as I couldn't decide which one to post.

Here are some Puma facts

Common Names: Cougar, Puma, Panther, Mountain Lion, Catamount
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata (Vertebrata)
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Genus: Felinae (Puma)
Species: concolor

The Puma has the greatest natural distribution of any mammal in the Western Hemisphere except for man.

The Puma is extremely agile and has great jumping power and may leap from the ground up to a height of 18 feet into a tree. It is a good swimmer but prefers not to enter the water. Sight is its most acute sense with a good sense of hearing, but is thought to have a poorly developed sense of smell.

Size and Appearance:
The Puma is the largest cat in the genus "felis", and is comparable in size as the leopard. They vary in length from 59 – 108 inches with a tail length of 21 – 36 inches, and height from 23 – 28 inches at the shoulder. Weight can vary greatly, between 75 and 250 pounds. They have a long body with a small head, short face, and a long neck and tail. They are powerfully built, and the hind legs are larger than the front. The ears are small, short and rounded.

The Puma thrives in coniferous forests, lowland tropical forests, swamps, grassland, dry brush country, or any other area with adequate cover and prey

Hunting and Diet:
Pumas primarily feed on large mammals, preferring deer, but they will also eat Coyotes, Porcupines, Beaver, mice marmots, hares, raccoons, birds and even grasshoppers. They kill by stalking to within 30 feet of their prey before pouncing from its hiding place. It leaps onto its victim’s back and bites into the neck and holds with its sharp claws.

How rare is this cat?
The International Species Information Service lists 334 worldwide, with 119 being in the U.S.

Excelent shot, Alan.
Nice kitty.
Excelent details and composition. Good side profile.

Halo Alan!
Wonderful shot! Every detail is PERFECT.

That's a fine detailed shot Alan.
The crop is a little tight, but it does not spoil the overall effect.

Both shots are superb, Alan. The perfectly aligned profile gives a very strong image. Exposure is very good, and the subject comes out the BG very well. Thaks for posting this precious animal.

My kind of shot... excellent detail and clarity.

A very nice portrait on this puma. Great color and sharp detail. Very informative notes with this excellent capture

Perfect shot Alan!
It looks like a predator because it is predator. Great pose, details and light. Note is also very good. TFS!

Almost perfect shot Alan!
The details, colours and POV are great, but I have feeling that it's cropped a bit to tight from below. Anyway, these is superb and I like it very much.
Well done!

Another great shot Alan! Superb sharpness and clarity. How close where you? The dark green shades of the BG contrast very well here. I like it very much..

Excellent capture Alan.

Fantastic exposure, superb colors and sharp details. Really well done! Maybe it's a little too tightly cropped in the bottom (you clipped a few whiskers), but nothing serious.

Excellent portrait Alan. The details and clarity are perfect. The 2 photos are similar and I think this one is better - both very good though. Well shown and TFS.

Fabulous capture, with perfect detail.

Lovely profile Alan. Great colours and detail in the fur. I think slightly more DOF, maybe one f stop would be good but that is a minor point and personal. I also like the BG and composition. Inspirational quality Alan, TFS :)

Wow! Details, composition, BG... Everything is so great. Your photos always inspire me. Thanks a lot!

good portrait, POV and DOF are very well but I'd rather to have some more spoace from up and down parts
