Just a close-up of a wave smashing over. It was taken the same day as the others of the big waves . I really enjoyed the 1/2 hour of watching the waves and foam.
This is the Atlantic ocean. The water temperature around the coast occiliates between 19c to 23c at this latitudes.. The water is at it's warmest after the summer, in september and october.
There used to be some whales between the islands, but there are less because of the disturbance caused buy maritime traffic.
This is a detail cropped from a larger picture.

shutter speed . 1/2000s

Thanks for looking

very impressive image , indeed it should revive true awe in front of the forceds natura can display and that we fail to understand, let alone dominate
thank goodness nature still has the upper hand ..althugh sometimes it caries disaster with it
beautiful picture tfs

This is a powerful composition that truly illustrates the power of the ocean. I like it a lot but wonder if just a little brightening might add to the impact.
Evelynn : )

very nice and imposing image....you can see the power in this wave....nicely composed and good POV..TFS

Thanks for your kind critique on my recent bird picture, Karin.
Coming to your picture, it is a fantastic capture of the tremendous power of waves crashing against the rocks. There is a bit of beautiful artistic abstraction manifest in this image. A quick look at the thumbnails in your portfolio suggests there is an artistic touch to each of your work.
Thanks and best regards.

Dynamic and powerful image. I like it.

Hallo Karin,

Hi Karin:)

Were I live in norway we got a really rough coast that sometimes creates waves like these. And I've tried many times to capture them but you beat me to the ground. A marvelous action photo with lots of power!

Hi Karin,
Wow.....outstanding shot of this crashing wave with tremendous force and I can hear the growling sound as it does that. Very scary scene and very dangerous it caught unawares. Immaculate sharpness and you have captured the stunning details beautifully. Nice colours and light effects. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Karin,

Very nice composition and POV. I find the picture too dark. I did a WS, I hope you like it.

Hello Karin, very dynamic composition, sharp and clear, great action, thanks!

Hi Karin!

It is absoulutely not JUST a close up, it is very fine one! If the stone wasn't in there, adding extra color, breaking wave so perfectly, being so well positioned it maybe was 'just' a closeup. But like this, showing the power of water so well, it is amazing! I love this shot, TFS!

Best regards,

An amazing shot! It's shots like this that make one feel so humble in front of things so natural!
Thank you!

Dear Karin,

j'aime bien cette photo dynamique ainsi que la couleur de l'eau
c'est dommage qu'il n'y a pas le son et l'odeur !

Hello Karin.

Excellent image, nice composition and colors.

Jose Luis.

zooming in that determinedly closely, you have captured a most powerful scene its best. Amazing structures of foam in the roaring waters, perfectly frozen in motion, and a fascinating fight of darkness and light. Great image! "The forces of nature" - a perfect announcement for an impressing series to come from you. Thank you!
With best regards,

Hello Karin,

Pfffffffffffffff.....what a big one. A very impressive image. I saw the thumbnail and click on it and wow.....I live also on the coast in Holland but this size of waves, no way not such a big rollers. We have the North Sea as nabour. He/she can't created this kind of big rollers at the coast. Ok back to your photo. The rock at the FG makes the wave so impressive. You have cropped this photo correct. Well done. An amazing shot. Regards and TFS BOB
