Hello friends in TN,

This immature grasshopper is still wingless but hopping rather fast from one spot to another. A short stop on my bougainvillea allowed me for a close shot in this pose. Taken late in the evening with the aid of flash and tripod.

Grasshoppers have antennae that are almost always shorter than the body (sometimes filamentous), and short ovipositors. Those species that make easily heard noises usually do so by rubbing the hind femurs against the forewings or abdomen (stridulation), or by snapping the wings in flight. Tympana, if present, are on the sides of the first abdominal segment. The hind femora are typically long and strong, fitted for leaping. Generally they are winged, but hind wings are membranous while front wings (tegmina) are coriaceous and not fit for flight. Females are normally larger than males, with short ovipositors.

Pretty shot of a juvenile Grasshopper, Jusni.
I like the composition and colours.
You have used the fill flash to good effect here.

Salam dear friend Jusni,
sorry, I was away from internet for two days. I have just found your marvellous macro of grasshopper and colorful plants. I think pinkish parts are leaves, not flowers. POV and composition perfect, similarly splendid colors, sharp focus great. Thanks for sharing. best wishes and salams

Hallo Jusni
What a lovely combination of colours of both the grasshopper and the flower. The cerise pink of this flower is just magic, and bring out the detail of the hopper so much more. The big eye looks as if it was created out of wood and then buffed. The flashback in the eye is really stunning. This is a beautifully framed and pleasantly presented image. Focus and sharpness is super. I am always alert when I see the word "grasshopper", as I am still searching for the grasshopper’s identity that I posted a while ago. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.

Hello Jusni,
Excellent capture of a Grasshopper nymph on Bouganvilia that is sharp and well exposed due to the skillful use of flash. I like the POV and composition too.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,

Hi Jusni
Nicely composed shot. Good sharpness, nice OOF background. I think that you could decrease saturation a little bit

Hello Jusni,
Great capture of this juvenile well camouflaged on the flower. I wonder if it was blinded by the flash as the eye looks rather strange. Excellent sharp details and fine colours. Very nice dark background and well composed too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Jusni,

Wonderful capture of this young grasshopper. I've never seen one without wings before. The grasshopper, flowers and leaves are all beautiful with nice colors. Excellent details and a great pose.

1 Talk about saturation...this one is psychadelic in nature....I marvel at all of the beauty in colour which you are able to capture from your country and then pass it on so nicely and well presented!

Hi Jusni, very nice work with your flash, the lighting is excellent. Great capture of this grasshopper. There's a good tie between his green and the leaves and his eyes very nicely match the flower. I've never seen (or noticed) coloured eyes on a grasshopper before. His angled pose works well in filling the frame. The detail on him is excellent. All nicely wrapped up and presented by yourself.

Thanks, John

I usually don't like much flash pictures but this one sure is an exception. Look at these colours, wow, it is fantastic Jusni. The green and pink contrasting in such a bright light against the dark background... the details are amazing and this is a very beautiful shot. Thanks!

Salam Jusni,
a lovely ctch of this hopper on the great bright red bourgies. An attractive shot with great clarity and sharpness. The angle of perch is exaclty forty-five which makes it some how very elegent.
Happy shooting.
