I was jumping with joy when I actually get to catch this Manta jump out of the water.

Manta rays are often seen jumping out of the water, as high as 2 feet, and then returning to the sea. Something I never knew, but got to see with my own eyes.
Scientists are not sure why they jump, just one of the things yet to discover about the manta.

They may do it to escape a potential predator, as part of a courtship display, or to rid themselves of skin parasites. Nobody knows. It could even be a kind of play.

What a sight!
I never knew that Mantas jumped out of the water, Sky.
You were quick to catch a jump with you camera, the 'wings' differentiating it easily on this image from a dolfin. This must be a first on TN! Certainly in the wild.
Thanks for sharing this amazing image,

WOOW, (Mantas saltando)
Hola Sky,
realmente original,
magnífica captura y detalles...
un momento magnífico,
saludos amiga.

Hi Sky, here's something you don't see everyday. I'll bet you were jumping with joy! Very nice capture of this Manta Ray. Positioning was perfect. Were you shooting for something else when he presented this, or did he jump once before to prepare you? I've often seen fish jump here, and they often jump twice or three times in succession. Hopefully one day I'll catch one of them, on my camera. Very well done.

Thanks, John

Hi Sky

I'm sure you have! I would have jumped up as well if i had got such a superb shot!
The timing here is terrific but also the focus is spot-on - something perhaps even more difficult considering the small time that it was out of the water.
Yet, you managed a "bull’s-eye" in both cases and brought back this fantastic shot!
Very beautiful colors as well and a gorgeous BG to show us a bit of the surroundings, too.
Overall: a terrific job!

Hi Sky,

We never know when something will happen in front of our eyes, and here, congratulations you were fast enough to capture this beautiful jump of the Manta ray, and you were actually able to catch this amazing action in a beautiful surrounding.
Very well done!
