Second Shot, I use the al servo mode on my Canon when trying to shoot wildlife, this one was taken with my older less advanced Canon rebel, it still works, using the center auto focus point only if I keep the shutter partly depressed the auto focus stays on the subject. Late afternoon, on a wonderful calm day. Low tide. I slowly paddled in until the bird got scared and took flight. I posted the take off a few weeks ago. I think these must be very successful birds, I see posts from all over the world that feature them. This is the Greater Egret, yellow bill and black legs.

Hi scott,

I like this inflight shot. The water and the egret are in balance. There is some noise on the background. You can use neat image for a better result.

Hi Scott,
a good in-flight shot with good detais and sharpness.
You manage to get a nice DOF, the bird is well seen against the BG. I think noise is ok.
Well done.

Hello Scott, this is a fabulous shot, well caught and your setting provided good focus and sharpness. Great moment to catch in flight showing those huge wings with good exposure on the whites, Even the eye is pin sharp. Wonderful composition.
I must say I find it hard to keep the shutter button depressed halfway to keep the auto focus locked, I shall perservere though.

Hello Scott,
Outstanding in flight capture of this great species. The details and colors captured here are wonderful, Thanks Scott.

Hi Scott,

Nice in-fligh shot with lots of detail in the feathers (not easy with white birds), a sharp eye and good depth of field to ensure the wing-tips are kept in focus. A tip on the panning, and I don't know if your Canon does this, but vertainly on the 30D and 40D you can programme the [*] button on the back to focus. This seems to work better than using the shutter button only - although it wouldn't have made a difference for this particular shot, which is spot-on.
