This image I am dedicating to the Bob Shannons' wife Jane. I have not meet nor talked to her but I feel I know a little bit about her. I feel behind a truly happy man that there is a women who shares the good times and bad, supports and works together to achieve their goals. Jane and Bob raised their family in the Washington wilderness which would not be easy especially for Jane. Yet I saw something not to long ago on Bobs' UTube work that made me see how great their kids have grown to be, a simply yet amazing thing that I wish more children would be willing to do so easily. Their grown son wrote "love you Dad". To me this shows great respect and admiration to the people who have done such a fine job in raising them. In Bobs' UTube work you can see Jane helping Bob be Bob, creating videos that are both fun and telling.
This image is of a Common Redpoll, not that I think Jane is common just the opposite is true, but I think she may think that what she does and is, is common, which I believe is untrue.

Common Redpoll
Carduelis flammea
General Description

By Nora Bryan

The Common Redpoll is a frequent and often abundant winter visitor across all of Alberta. As spring approaches, redpolls leave one and all for their arctic breeding grounds. Some redpolls breed in extreme northeast Alberta.

On their breeding grounds redpolls inhabit patches of scrubby birch and willow. In winter, redpolls can be found anywhere with suitable cover, including city parks and back yards stocked with suitable feeders.

When not gorging at feeders in winter stocked with their favorite niger seed or sunflower seeds, redpolls eat seeds of trees such as birch, and of grasses and other plants. They may also nibble from suet feeders, especially in winters where their numbers are high, and there is lots of competition at feeders. On their breeding grounds redpolls also feast on the explosion of buzzing insects that emerge, seemingly without respite in the Arctic summer.

Redpolls build a nest of twigs and grasses on the ground or in low shrubs. Four to seven pale blue eggs splotched with dark markings are laid and incubated for 10 or 11 days. Young are fledged in another 12 days or so.

You're right in many was...Even though I could never do full time work other than photography, it gave my kids a two parent family...which is unusual...and that became our major job in life...we raised kids...that's what we did...God Bless you... Very nice dedication!!
I really like the angle you're presenting this common redpoll.
You've used the branch so well in putting it in diagonale.
Great colours with good details in the feathers!
